Axe-Fx III Firmware 31.03 Release

Is this purely acadenic for you or are there some albums we can hear your tones on? Always looking for new music to check out.
I make presets for songs either I want to play, or whatever band I'm playing in wants to play. I made these presets, because 1) I finally had time to learn how to make presets better on the Axe FX III; and 2) I decided to focus on the Amp Block. This was an academic exercise, to approach it the same way I approach working on and building my own amps. The difference was I checked my existing amps and duplicated them with FA's brilliant interface.

By the way, I posted the post, because I was reporting that this latest firmware is brilliant. It doesn't just sound like the real thing. I think it performs like the real thing. I'm just an idiot that typed in the numbers from three of my amps. Of course, Fractal Audio knows this. It's what they keep improving.

I don’t suppose you have a Super bass you’d like to copy? 😎😎😎

From the FM9 discussion (FW 11.00 Beta 2)
Quote:
Hi, a fix for this was implemented in the newest public beta version (the one this thread is concerned with). If you saved presets using the previous public beta version (11.0 public beta 1) the code that activates to update the settings when loading a preset won't trigger since the box won't recognize the preset as being from a previous version. If you like, post an example of one of your presets that does this here, or forward it to http://support.fractalaudio.com and I can confirm this is the case.
In the official release we will be sure to trigger the Tube Hardness setting for all preexisting presets. Reselecting the Preamp Tube Type setting is a proper workaround for the time being.
Thanks,
Matt B.

I upgraded my Axe FX III from the previous Beta to FW 31.03 and the same seems to be the case for the Axe Fx III. When I reselect Preamp Tube Type the Tube Hardness value change for most amps (at least the ones I have checked). It should be mentioned that the amps where I see this are copied from the FM9 into the blocks library and then to the Axe Fx III. Unfortunately I have forgotten which FW-version I had installed in the FM9 (most likely FW 11.00 Beta1).

The only other "bass" amps I have are several different vintage Fender Bassmans and a very rare, early (Dyna-Bass transitional) Traynor YBA-1 with a 5AR4 tube rectifier, a three-digit serial number, and Pete's handwritten name inside on the chassis. It's in great shape, and I have already planned on doing this one next. It is a fantastic guitar amp on stage.

Oops, I should have mentioned that I'm a traditionalist. I use my tone and volume knob a lot. Keep that in mind. The age of my amps should pretty much describe me.

Hey....

Nice presets, and thanks for sharing.

Best presets I've downloaded with respect to volume knob sensitivity.
I'm also "old school" and appreciate the ode to this method.

Kudos

One observation: On the Super Reverb preset you have the CAB block saved on channel B (Pig 57) which is default. On Channel A I see a nice spread of Factory 2 Super Verb cabs. Might want to update that.

Cheers

Thanks. It's probably a leftover default. I'll look more closely at channels with Cab Blocks. Not something I tend to view. I'm a super basic user, lol. I'll go in there and check all of them. Btw, I miss my Pig Nose amp. I gave it to my best mate in Australia before I left Adelaide.

(Edit: fixed - copied Channel A to all channels. I assume the volume knob sensitivity is entirely due to copying the values and measurements of the specific amp. FA is brilliant.)

Have that Traynor bass amp, which also has Pete’s initials! Got it used around the mid 80s. Only thing I have done is change tubes and change the old 2 prong plug to a three prong one. Did change the speakers in the cab though.

Always switch the plug to three-prong - another reason for doing mods with Fractal Audio devices! Less risk from DC and AC shocks (although can attest that they hurt less than lightning). Stayed with 7027A tubes. Pulled the speakers, put them in a safe spot on the shop wall, and had the amp run G12M Celestions and CV ER123s. A preferred sound with Marshall bass circuits.

Again, decided to test the firmware as if these were all real amps. Amazing that it works so well with FA! Traynor preset this weekend. It’s a bigger test, starting it off with the Brit JM45, and modifying circuit values from there. This amp is built like a flipping tank, as you know. Serious transformers and chassis. It totally rivals the Marshall and Fender amps that it was designed against.

Did you get your Traynor in Canada, or somewhere along the US border? Bought mine from Chatham, not too far from Windsor. Three or four digit SN?

Bought it in Ottawa. 7 digit serial number starts with 100

Has someone else noticed that the Amp Jazz 120 starts a constant purring like a tiny motorcycle engine if you activate Out Compression on the Dynamics page?

Here is another test of the new firmware 31.03. This preset was made with duplicating (as best I can with my test equipment) the component values and characteristics from my actual amp, with input values available using Axe FX III + AxeEdit. With my set-up, and ears, it sounds identical* to the real amp. I tried this several ways with the Amp block models currently provided by FA.

This amp was built as a mix between Fender and Marshalls at the time, in the repair shop by Pete Traynor in Toronto at the Long & McQuade shop, as far as I can tell. It definitely predates Yorkville. The iron on this amp is impressive - more substantial than either Fender and Marshall.

After reviewing several different starting points, I used the Brit JM45 Jumped. It gave me a better start. I don't normally make presets, as I've said. By the way, I used a Les Paul for this, because that's what I play with this amp. I think the most impressive thing about the state of the firmware, is how well it mirrors my guitar's volume and tone on the amp. Any suggestions, please let me know. *Note: a subjective statement

Im all about a YBA preset!

Not many yba’s for sale right now which is odd.
As long as I’m around, this amp isn’t going anywhere. Years ago, through nothing more than curiosity, I stumbled across this amp. Pure dumb f-ing luck. On the day, I thought my biggest score was Italian on Erie St!

I went looking for one in December and they are getting scarce. A YBA-3 would be a nice grab.
I have a friend with a yba3 custom special to move (afaik he hasnt sold it).

Im interested in the yba 1A to send to Shea at monomyth if hes interested, much cheaper than a 1959 (reissue or vintage).

Exactly why I was originally looking for this Traynor years ago - less expensive than a JTM45. Plus, these things were literally able to be thrown off the roof (minus the tubes) and still work, lol.
