Does anyone ever play around with changing the power tubes? I was messing around today with the Stealth Blue amp and changed it to JJ EL34 to see how it would sound. I need to do a back to back to see if there’s really any noticeable difference in sound.

I have spent hours swapping tubes when I am tweaking sounds on the Axe FXIII. I found that regardless of the category (EL34, 6L6GC, etc.) I seem to favor the JJ tubes in almost any category when they are available. I think the differences are very noticeable, but when I am doing this kind of tube swap, I have no effects active on my chain. I will then of course ensure that once chain is turned back on, it still speaks to me, but for just finding the right tube, I like the effects off so I can hear the differences.
