Not surprised on that one either. Rockman, for guys without tube amps, was a revolution. It was a brilliant design and marketing effort, and had some impacts on me, good and bad I am sure.
And I wouldn't mind seeing some sort of Rockman-based model; If idoable it would be cool. I think it is a little different than what Cliff normally models, in that it has a sort of overwhelming coloration.
I will say, on the down side, the thing about the Rockman for me was that it kinda made playing delicate and difficult passages a little too easy, because any errors were well concealed and made to fall into a more homogeneous liquid sound. For example, I learned the little lead part of Uli Roth's "Sails Of Charon" and was having no trouble making it sound like I was playing it cleanly. But with a more revealing tube-amp-based sound I am sure the hidden mistakes would have been enlightening and would have improved my playing faster (if I didn't give up sooner).
Uli's technique, IOW, was a lot better than I thought. Similarly, I can see a player like Gary Moore, had he been isolated from every amp but a Rockman, developing into a very different (and probably sloppy) player. Lol. Probably I'm kidding. And the Rockman sound is cool because you can record it at 96k, 48k, 44.1k, 22k and it will sound very similar no matter what. Now I think I'm almost definitely kidding.
Ultimately I had a lot of fun with my Rockman. Help Cliff Model one. A fundraiser might work. ;]
