Out of interest, when I installed 21.00 b4 my levels on all my presets and scenes seemed to be a lot louder and caused clipping on my boosted solo channel. After reinstalling the presets from the last backup (version 20), the levels are all back to normal.

Dunno if thats a bug, or just one of those things but I thought I would mention it just in case.

I noticed that a bit , but I will just re level after the final release , on a major firmware I will usually have to re tweak or reset a few things

While it’s still in Beta I don’t really worry about it , cause it is subject to change . As per FM3 thread Cliff was still working on the amps as of yesterday

Maybe we should have a comic relief forum where we can make all kinds of fart and coke jokes or whatever else for sh!ts and giggles.
I don't think that would be as humorous and unexpected as in any given "serious" Fractal thread.

Comic relief within a thread is from taking things (and one's self) too damn seriously. It's play in the midst of the often annoying self-entitled first-world seriously GAS-sy shits we all suffer from.

Shrug even with derailments the firmware release threads never cease to serve their purpose.
Exactly!

I pretty much only run 1 preset (kitchen sink preset) but had to adjust the different amps' volumes. Some got louder, some got quieter. Just had to manage it.

I’ve only been here since late May, but this seems like it’s been a tough one for Cliff and team. Feeling for them right now, hoping they’re not burnt to a crisp. I’m guessing they’re seasoned veterans of the firmware cycle, and I’ll bet that the earlier development days were probably a lot more crazy. I’ve seen a lot of night and weekend posts from Cliff. You can sense that this thing really is his baby. If I were nearby I’d lug the big amps around for them. Anything to take the load off and raise their spirits. But all I can do from here is cheer them on. Go FAS team!!

While it does happens here most (beta)... what I said wasn’t meant to be taken too seriously. I use humor all the time.

To re-rail the thread a bit: have you tried the Dizzy Silver Ch4? Scratches the Herbie Ch3 itch and then some for me. It even has a well-defined bottom end now.

(Re-reading that makes me realize I am only contributing to the fart talk there)
I suspect whatever the issue w Herb 3 Cliff has likely found it and we will see Beta 8 soon

bug: when i scroll through presets using the front panel, i get stuck on several in a row telling me that i have unsaved changes and cannot proceed until i store them. also possibly related the screen will sometimes blink rapidly upon storing a preset

Sounds like you already have the answer for you...

It's kind of like asking "when will I know everything about music?".

The more you know, the more you know how much you don't know...

Cliff obviously has amazing ears and also knows both how the tube amps function and the science / math to simulate that with programming.

As he mentioned in one of these beta threads, he finally solved some issues that have been bothering him for years.

I'll bet he has a list of things as long as his arm that he wants to solve or optimize or make more accurate.

I think for the vast majority of us, it's been at that point for a long time. I'm not trying to match any real amp, just get tones I enjoy. I've been able to do that for years... But it keeps getting "better" for me.
Thanks. It would be great if there was a way to quantify "better." What sounds better one day may not be the next The only true test is a blinded comparison under controlled conditions. There is also confirmation bias. That fact that Fractal announces an update with "improvements" means you're going to be immediately biased to hear something different. If Cliff put out the same "improved" announcement with no changes to the code, I guarantee many on this forum will say it sounds so much better, when he changed nothing. Our brains play tricks on us. Here is an example of what I mean:

I love how every new release gives birth to a new thread and retires the previous observations, derailments, and humor.

those are different amps for different playing styles IME. herbie has more recto-ish voicing with feel and saturation of 5150’s and works much better in lower tunings, while vh4 is it’s own thing and a lot drier in gain structure, therefore it makes me play different things, which I also enjoy, but I much prefer the herbie for my playing style. it just works better with my rig and playing technique.

herbie = modern metal and more brutal genres
vh4 = hard rock, modern rock, thrash/heavy metal

I dare say that’s because when you load a preset, it is applying new amp defaults from the modelling changes in this firmware, which changes the preset.

Thank you tysonit for your explanation on this point. I wondered the same as chkayleebear.

There's an auto-update happening when you load a preset created on an old firmware.

This, combined with the prompt-on-edit setting is hurting you.

Go to the Setup menu. Select Global Settings and on the first page, Config, scroll down until you see Prompt on Edited Preset Change and set that to OFF and you won't have this issue any more.

I use to leave mine off, then thought, What am I missing.
