Anyone still using a tube amp?

Okay, one other check- are you making sure you’re plugging into the output 2 jacks on the FM3? They’re the middle two, in between input 2 and the pedal jacks.

Yeah. Output 2 Left. Sometimes I think the Katana 3 must be the culprit.

I have a Mark II Artist, and I don’t recall having to do anything special to the Katana to utilize the power amp in. I don’t recall if the master volume on the Katana comes into play here, but you would think it doesn’t.

I have an older Mesa Boogie Quad preamp and a TriAxis power amp. However, I am ashamed to say that they have not been fired up in a long long time. I am dreading hearing the state of the tubes at this point. Who knows, it may be fun taking a stab at creating an amp IR for the Quad.

I have a ‘68 Marshall clone tube amp and I use it with the Suhr RL and FM3 for Cab +FX.

FM3 also does that sound quite well with a 1987X amp BUT different .

Both rigs have their own purpose. I prefer the Tube amp though.

Just bought a Mark VII amp and am loving it through my 2x12 recto cabinet. I also bought a mesa fillmore 50 and 50w stealth black amp all because of the AXE FX. I absolutely love my tube amps. There is something special about the in the room sound still. I am still unable to get the warm bouncy jazz cleans through my Axe fx that I am able to get on my tube amps. I still love my axe fx though.

I'm a basic bitch. I usually use one cab, amp, and effects. I really treat the Axe as a regular rig just like the old days. If we were lucky we had 2-3 channels with pedals and a volume knob. I just find that using the same amp and cab and playing like a real rig make the sound more cohesive. I have gotten past the fact that the Axe has 250 models. I like what I like and just stick with it.

The benefit is that I don't have to carry a Marshall half stack and a pedal board around. I'm old school and grew up playing Marshalls namely a Marshall JCM 900 2500 Master Volume. I got used to using the volume knob to get different tones. Different strokes for different folks, but the Axe actually gives me that style of playing. I have tried just about everything out there, but the Axe just feels like I'm playing through my old Marshall.

I recorded a lot of music with that JCM 900. Cleans, mid gain, high gain (Death Metal), the amp always recorded well. I know it's not everyone's bag, but there is a reason that Marshalsl are on so many albums.

This is the way. If most players did this then there'd be a lot more happiness in the world and a lot less unproductive bloviating about modeling on places like TGP.

Bah humbug.

Team "endless fiddling" here.

More like team "have so many experiments i liked enough to keep at the time that between them and the new factory presets I'm literally out of room on my OG Axe 3".

Good times for sure :)

Can I ask you a newbie/Katana question. I just got the FM3 a week ago. So far no connection combination from the Manual works to get sound from the FM3 to the Katana. How you cable your set up?

Headphones work fine, but I really wanna get that thing going through the clean channel on the Katana 3, or just through the Power Amp In
I just plug straight into either the front end (like a pedalboard) or into the power amp. If you plug straight into the front end you might not want to use amp and cab modeling as it might not sound so great but you'll need to experiment. I'm not quite sure how the FM3 is different from the Axe-Fx III or VP4 but make sure you're using the correct type of output from the FM3. This would be instrument level to run into the front end because that's what guitar amplifiers want to see. This would most likely be either in global output or in your output block. I would suggest seeing if there is a YouTube video on it. Cooper Carter or Leon Todd might have one.

I have a bunch of random presets floating around too but I spend 90% of my time on one of two scenes on the same preset that I use for live performance. Then again I generally don't play Strymon or refrigerator rack-required genres so my needs are pretty simple. I do have an idea brewing for an original project that would make heavy use of the MTD block so this may change...

I have 5 presets on the FM9.
  • Smoky Jazz (Wes Montgomery/Joe Pass tone)
  • Clean '60s Twin Reverb Funk and R&B
  • 60s Blues edge of breakup to overdriven
  • Modern high gain Rhythm
  • Modern high gain Lead
I use different amps for each one and a limited number of different effects, no more than three or four on a given preset.

I don't tweak them much, I've been using the same 5 presets for a couple of years now.

Every once in a while I spend some time checking out other amp models just for fun and at least twice I've substituted amp models on my main presets (Jazz and Fender Clean). But that's only twice in a couple of years.

Thank you. Trouble-shooting all the possible connections and settings adjustments with youtubers, but also very much with Fractal customer service. None of the connections settings working yet with my amp.

I still have three tube amps: Star Sirius (Mark Samson/Matchless), Goodsell Super 17, and a tweed Deluxe that I built from a Mojotone kit. I also have a little portable Pignose I keep around for grab-n-go and for working on stuff in the shop.
I don't use them too much, but still break them out occasionally.
Same with pedals - I have a bunch of select pedals that I kept, but only break out occasionally.
I play my Fractal 99-percent of the time.
I am looking at buying a Mojotone 5e3 Tweed Deluxe kit built out by Mojotone from Reverb.
Are you happy with yours? I was looking for a Victoria 20112 Tweed Deluxe clone amp but the Mojotone looks like a much less expensive alternative. If it is good quality and sound, I would look into it futher.
