Amp speaker tab - FRFR vs SS PWR AMP

I generally play direct through a PA style setup, so I have always left the tab at FRFR default settings. I tried the SS Power amp setting just to see what the difference is and I think I like the way it sounds better! What is the difference in eq and is there any downside using this setting through a direct setup?
 
To clarify what this setting does:

FRFR: Use this when recording or playing through a PA system. The effects of speaker compression are modeled and reproduced as though a microphone were capturing the speaker.

SS PWR AMP + CAB: Use this when using a power amp and a guitar cabinet. In this case the guitar cabinet will have it's own compression characteristics which you will like to preserve. You can also use this when using an FRFR system that has "guitar speaker-like" compression behavior.

Oh, thank you! I never thought about that parameter. I'm going to try what it does with an F12-X200 or a Matrix Q12a. Both they are closer to guitar speakers than the usual PA monitors.

What would you recommend if you're using both at same time live?

I'm using Harley Benton GPA-400 SS-Amp +
  • AXEFXIII: Power Amp On and Cab Block
  • 2x Harley Benton 2x12" cab loaded with Celestion F12M-150 + Celestion F12-X200 FRLR (stereo)
  • 2x KRK 5" Studio Monitors (stereo)
in parallel.

1) Do you think Celestion F12M-150 + Celestion F12-X200 Full Range Live Response speaker have "guitar speaker like compression behavior" also when I'm just playing with 70dB(A) bedroom level?

2) What do you use with these speakers, output mode "FRFR" or "SS PWR AMP + CAB"?

3) And combined with the 5" KRK Studio Monitors - what would you use?

This * comment sound like, "SS PWR AMP + CAB" with FRFR just for high volumes. Well, FRFR could still be the better decision for low volume at home also with guitar speaker like FRFR speakers.

The products you mentioned are all FRFR types, not traditional guitar cabs, so FRFR mode is the way to go. And no, at 70db, it’s not going to compress. Even if you ran it higher, it wouldn’t compress the same way a traditional guitar speaker would, so you would still use FRFR mode.
