🔥Introducing the new AM4 Amp Modeler

Sorry to ask this again, but i just want to be sure. Im set to pick up a VP4 at Fractal tomorrow, however with the AM4 im questioning if thats the route i should go. A few questions for those more experienced.

Can the AM4 do exactly what the VP4 does minus the blocks that were left out? Workflow all the same? Scenes, presets, footswitch functions, channels?

I don't need 4 cable routing as i plan on going out of the VP4 or AM4 into a pair of tonex ones. For stereo in and out. I like to run everything in front of the amps.

I guess my question is even though im not planning on using the amp/cab functionality does it still make sense to get the AM4 because it theoretically can do everything the VP4 does? Please correct anything miss information and would love some Insight before i drive out to Plainstow. Thank you

Are you planning to run effects into a traditional amp? If so, the VP4 is mind-boggling good at this and I feel doesn't get enough love for how good the analogue path is and how sonically transparent they are. One of our very, very pro guitarists here in Australia tells me regularly how much he enjoys using his VP4 into a traditional amp.

Wouldn't have expected that, great !
So many cliff-ism subtleties along the way. Hard not to marvel!

My first time in at 1.0. Well... 1.0.1, I guess. :)

I'm still not sure is this Gen 3 (aka current Gen)? Or 3.5? Maybe 3.25 at least... because of the marvelous freshen-up to look at... and act upon?

Good hands., we're in!

I'm holding on to my FX8 as well, just because it has relays. It can provide all the effects I need and still do the channel switching on my 100 watt heads.

I'm begging Fractal...RELAYS! RELAYS! RELAYS! on future products geared toward being used with amps.

Think I wrote it somewhere already, but adding relays to a dedicated amp modeler is ..., well, "not logical".
Note that I said "on future products geared toward being used with amps" This would include products like the VP4.

In my situation, since I'd get a AM4 instead of a VP4 to use with my amps since my effects needs are limited. I'd love to have relays on the AM4 as well but while the case is not as compelling as it is for the VP4 I wouldn't call it illogical. If adding relays was truly illogical people wouldn't be asking for them.

I'm not great at tracking down gifs.

Wanted to find a dramatic... DARK night-time runway... to lit right the "f" up! Maybe like Heat... De Niro/Pacino

Best I could do...

(wish I coulda done better)

But if THAT isn't how Cliff's brain lights up upon a moment of clarity/peace/confirmation...

...its how mine does upon his acceptance!

I've never saw a company so dedicated as FAS... "the one that keeps on giving". Although I'm soooooooo happy with my FM3 I'm seriously considering this little magic box for a backup, no doubt!

I have been using my FM3 for more than a year and I am a big fan of the product.
When the AM4 was released, I thought: "Wow, is the new generation here? An FM3 on steroids in a smaller form factor?"
I was wrong :D
I do see how the AM4 is good for simple setups (and honestly, this is more than enough to play into an amp/cab), but I am a bit disappointed that it doesn't have a Bluetooth connection with some sort of mobile app. I guess it is planned for the next generation (and AM4 still belongs to 3rd gen). I am super tired of the sit/stand actions during sound setup (and guitar in left hand), so I've decided to carry a laptop in a bag because it is way easier to configure the unit via USB.

Exactly my experience. I was a bit shaken when I saw the release since I bought my FM3 2/3 weeks ago but then I realized they are two different beasts. I have a Surface Go tablet (Win 11) that I carry with me (lightweight, easy) just in case I need some deeper setup on the unit. But in, fact, I'm getting myself so used to the onboard UI that I can get most things done pretty quickly. Once you get the hang of it, it's pretty simple and effective actually.

I am disappointed that Fractal and others have not done what Kemper did with the Kemper Player. In that you start off with a basic unit at a cheaper price that can nevertheless play the same presets as the flagship models. Be it that you start off with less effects and features that are in the flagship models. However you have the ability to upgrade your unit in stages which to many people makes the unit a more affordable option which in time will grow up to on par with it's bigger brothers.

I prefer this model and I believe that it is the way to go as it introduces people to an ecosystem that they were previously shut out of due to cost. Furthermore it is harder for them to make a case to their other half to spend 2k in one go. While buying a cheaper unit and then upgrading it would fly under the radar and probable save them from a potential divorce. Also the fact that this new unit is not able to play FM3 presets means that it is a non starter for me.
