🔥Introducing ICONS - Amp Modeling + FX - Plugins & Standalone

Yeah but sometimes people accidentally make two iLok usernames, one that's something like RifferMcDuck, the other RifferMcDuck@gmail.com, and they aren't aware they've been logging in with two separate usernames for years and end up with multiple plugins on each of them and they eventually accuse iLok of removing a plugin from their account and then iLok informs them they have two usernames and they spend the rest of their life in great shame

Happened to a ... friend
That was me :) Their support was quick and super helpful.

I don't think it was meant for you to switch :)

But yeah, I almost bought it, then realized there's not much use in it right now for me. Missing effects, no grid, no amp channel switching, will wait and see.
Not sure why you'd dismiss my interest that offhandedly? The hardware units are fairly portable, but if you're going on a trip and are trying to minimize the amount of stuff you haul along a plugin is pretty handy to have. But you do have to balance the cost vs. utility. I've got the old Studio Devil plugin plus a bunch of Plugin Alliance stuff. Enough to do in a pinch. Sure, I'd prefer the Fractal solution but if I can't duplicate things I have in my hardware presets it becomes necessary to ask myself, "What else could I spend 300 bucks on." It's not like you get a discount if you own the hardware or anything.

I'd really rather have seen some host mechanism where there was a wider selection of amps and you selected what you wanted, up to a certain package limit. Like what Toontrack does with EZ Drummer/Superior Drummer and the EZX kits. I'd have probably gone for that.

I didn’t mean to dismiss your interest at all, sorry if it came out this way.

My point was that these plugins will probably always be expensive, I don’t think their purpose is to encourage switching from hardware.

To me this question arises regardless of price.

Having a software version of a Fractal device makes a lot of sense to me as a super portable/backup solution, or for mixing/reamping/editing. Even if that version doesn’t have all the amps, and I have to purchase some bundles or whatever. But it has to have compatible presets, and certainly the same selection of effects blocks.

Otherwise I’m not sure it’s worth even 10 bucks for me personally.

To be fair, I recall reading a post either from Cliff or someone else from Fractal, who downplayed or outright stated that a Fractal plug-in was essentially out of the question due to concerns of backwards engineering or someone “cracking the code”, or something to that effect. That Fractal wouldn’t or didn’t want to take the risk. I don’t have the means (or time) to search for that post, but I’m quite positive I read it. It was a few years ago, if I recall correctly, so perhaps the Fractal team solved that problem and it’s no longer a concern.
Yes that is true............

I was just a few weeks ago lamenting to one of my good friends the fact that Fractal has never released a plugin version of their modeling. Words cannot express my excitement. I will buy the 6505 models day one. Don't forget the 5153 100w Stealth model. I NEED those. lol

Agree that plug-in and hardware compatibility is important. Tweak your presets, build new tones, etc, while your rig stays set up at the venue, or packed in the truck

on the subject of hacking, and someone unlocking the Fractal algorithm by releasing plugins...
I suspect releasing small "taster" packages such as these ones means that no one will have acess to all the full AX3 amps/cabs/effects, a smart move imho. this way, I can just grab my Marshalls pack, Fender pack etc.. and mix/match. Please include the JMP-1 models in your Marshall / Hi-Gain amps release! at $99 per pack, I think it's a bargain. you're getting all the Fractal goodness at a fract(al)-ion of the cost!

I and thousands of others literally despise iLok. Fairly shocked you went in a failed direction that consumers are so incredibly sick of.

Logic on this move?
iLok is the industry standard for music software anti-piracy. It costs a lot of money to create software. It's in my employee's interests that our software be protected from theft so they can continue to receive a paycheck.
