Rock vs. Country Guitar Duel - Who Won?

You guys are too kind! Thank you everybody! Unfortunately I didn't bring my Axe-Fx II for the jam because I had to fly to Colorado (and I was already unsure enough about bringing my guitar on the plane haha). But Brad and his tech were cool enough to set me up with an amp and pedalboard for...

Rock vs. Country Guitar Duel - Who Won?

Funnily enough, I actually started on the Dr. Z models too when I was hunting for this tone. Then when I switched over to the Ruby Rocket, everything just seemed easier to dial in. Must be because Brad's Dr. Z amp is a Z-Wreck. I've heard great things about the versatility of that model. Will...

Haha! :lol I would, but the tracks were recorded several FW updates ago. The presets were pretty simple though: Brit Pre for the Rock parts and Ruby Rocket for the Country parts.

Rock vs. Country Guitar Duel - Who Won?

Thank you guys for the kind words! I really appreciate them. :) Lead vocals are by the talented Matt Griffith! I just revised my original post to include that info now. :encouragement: I used the Ruby Rocket for all the "Brad" parts. It gets great sounds for chicken pickin'!

Rock vs. Country Guitar Duel - Who Won?

The versatility of the Axe-Fx II never ceases to amaze me. I’ve been a long-time Rock music fan and, as a kid, never knew how complex Country guitar playing could be… that is, until I first heard Brad Paisley play a few years ago. As soon as I became acquainted with the chicken pickin’ sound, I...

Axe-Fx II Challenge - Level: Mutt Lange

Alright, so my first question is: what the heck is that awesome weird instrument weaving in and out throughout this whole song? Is it a heavily processed guitar, a keyboard, a flute type thing, a pedal steel, or what? What ever it is, Mutt decided to give it a solo at 2:24 lol. Second, how...

Journey Tones - My First Gig With Axe-Fx II

Journey Tones - My First Gig With Axe-Fx II

No problem! That's exactly what I was going for with the Plexi 50: a decently thick crunch with the drive on, and more of a dynamic overdriven tone with the drive bypassed.

Journey Tones - My First Gig With Axe-Fx II

Since these are live presets, I made sure to dial them in with my FRFR at super loud volumes. It's particularly easy to let the bass frequencies get out of control at higher volumes, so I tried to be conscious of that and also wanted to make sure it sat well in a mix (and doesn't fight the bass...

Journey Tones - My First Gig With Axe-Fx II

I probably should've included that information earlier; it's firmware 1! ... Haha I'm joking. It was firmware 14.02. When FW15 came out, it was only a couple days before that gig, so I didn't want to update and risk drastically changing the sound of my presets that close to a show. I still...

Here's a couple presets I was using, for those of you who have asked for them. I used Journey OD 1 on songs like "Stone In Love," "Any Way You Want It," and "Lights" (On "Lights" I turned off the Drive block and switched to my neck pickup). Scene 2 is for solos. I used Journey OD 2 for...

    Spectrum Analyzer & Level Meter

Very true; because of the way the software works, Axe-Edit enhancements would be required for this sort of thing. But hey, if Fractal decided to do that, who knows what other kinds of cool features could be added in the future if Axe-Edit had audio importing capabilities?

Does The Quality Of XLR Cables Make A Difference? (FASLINK)

How do I temporarily block my Floyd Rose tremolo?

I had seen that just the other day as well. It looks perfect for what I need! Maybe it would be possible to rout a small cavity on the other side of the trem block as well, to install a 2nd barrel bolt. That would allow you to block the tremolo from diving as well. It would be a pretty major...

    Noob needs help!!!!

I know that Mark II presets will transfer over to XL, but I think I remember reading that it doesn't work the other way around. Things may have changed since then, but I think it was because the XL has some features (like extra user cab space and more blocks with X/Y capabilities) that won't...

    Noob needs help!!!!

As for the XL, yes it gets the same tones as a Mark II. It just has a few extra features like extra user cab space, more presets, more blocks with X/Y capabilities, and a FASLINK port in the back that connects with the FASLINK port in the MFC-101 Mark III.
  37. Blaze

    Noob needs help!!!!

The MFC-101 Mark III has silent "liquid" switches that the previous models didn't have. It also includes a FASLINK port that allows you to control all your switching on the Axe and power your MFC with just a standard XLR cable, as opposed to using a more fragile ethernet/ethercon cable. I wouldn't consider this a major problem, but it is a slight annoyance. After booting up the Axe II, the input lights are lighting up, but I am completely muted. Most annoying part of being a musician?

The most annoying part of being a musician? Bass players. They play the entire night with one sound, at one volume, with no foot switches to mess with, they don't break strings, they aren't required to play chords, they play one note for every 4 notes played on a guitar (or more depending on...

    How To Fly With Axe-Fx?

Thanks for the tip on the Gator backpack. It looks like it would work perfectly! When you say "hand luggage," do you mean that it's small enough to count as a "personal item" that can be stored under the seat? Or a regular carry on item stowed in the overhead compartments?

Clips #2, #4, and #8 were my favorites. (#4 was slightly lower in volume but, with a volume adjustment to even things out, it sounds fantastic!) I think the amps in clips #15 and #18 would work really well together for double tracking. There's a nice contrast between them.
