Well, Cliff said 1.05 was more like 1.03 and reading (possibly misreading) his posts on the first couple of pages makes it look this way. I'd just like to clarify as Fas Modern which I use quite a lot sounded way better in 1.04 than it did in 1.03 to my ears .

Yes- I agree. I put my volumes at conservative levels in my daw for various reasons, meaning that the axe was never clipping. Losing that 6db had me scratching my head for a while until I read that the change was intentional... Unfortunately that means my monitor controller is now maxed out...

Yes, before I bought an axefx I had many tube amps that I'd tweak old school with a soldering iron before I got what I wanted from them... I hope that there will always be room for advanced parameters in the axefx.

I know there have been a few things mentioned specifically that will disappear with this FW- like the character EQ in the amp block- but what about things like transformer match, bright cap value and sag? Will they still be there?

I prefer clip 2. There appears to be a rather pleasing upper mid resonance going on which changes how the amp clips as you dig in. It's damn close though. Looking forward to having a play through G3 and see how it feels through the fingers.

I spent a LOT of time dialling in a couple of high gain presets with 17.03 so I was really happy with them. I upgraded to 17.04 and felt that they were squishier, more mid heavy and a little rough sounding. I immediately downgraded back to 17.03... I thought the same as you regarding the mid...

You're welcome! When double tracking I tend to use the FAS Modern I on it's own hard left for one track and the PVH 6160 II on it's own hard right for the other track. I use the same Ownhammer Mesa/Marshall HGE IR combo for each, but have a slightly different blend for each amp. The 6160II...

I quite like the OH MAR-CB V30-EN T1 median as a starting point for the Marshall pack. Not as much low end as the equivalent Mesa v30EN and a different, slightly more pronounced mid voicing. As you find the Mesa pack a little scooped, you may enjoy this speaker. To get the best of both worlds...

I swear by a combination of the 6160II and the FAS Modern I. Guitar choice and pickup type (and pickup/pole heights!) make a huge difference with the axefx. It seems very sensitive to what you put in front of it.

With any studio reverb I find that the better it is, the more of it you can dial in. Before I felt that I could only blend in a certain level before if sounded too artificial, now I can just wind it up without having to worry about it falling apart. Ambient guys are going to lose their minds...

I'm not sure anyone's seriously been expecting more than they got by trying the 'bulb' rhythm preset with an electric banjo. ;) The essence of this thread is much less fundamental than what you are suggesting, and I don't think that should necessarily make other peoples presets irrelevant...
