Should I ditch my current setup for Mackie?

Good advice so far. I tried the Mackie and it was nice and you wont be disappointed but I found the RCF HD12a better. In terms of sound and price. I don't know if you have access to them but if you do, check them out.

Also, I've just thought "sod it" and ordered a MFC-101. I cant be bothered trying to program a midi doofer and this thing speaks the lingo already. More play time. Does anybody give a fuck? Probably not. :)

Tube vs Modeler - last nights experience.

The Metal Zone wasn't that bad. It had the odd sweet area if you knew how to eq it in. Not all that versatile obviously but potentially great with a tube amp if you know what you're doing. I had a Keeley modded one that was very good but I played in a thrash/death metal band. Its good for that...

    AxeFest UK monitor shootout

I can't say enough good things about the Axe II through an RCF HD12a. I tried all the main players and that one stood out for me. The price is great too. I paid £620 for mine and it kind of shat on ones almost twice the price. So I suppose I'm saying try one before deciding on an FRFR cab.

Great FRFR shootout on youtube....RCF Mackie Alto QSC

I did a shootout with most of the speakers used in this vid and a couple besides and I left with an RCF HD12a. It was a no brainer too. So organic and dynamic. You could hear everything. They all sounded good but the RCF was great. And the HD12a was a lot better than the HD10a too. More...

    Planning a rig...

Well, it turns out one of the places I hadn't considered or visted for a while stocks RCF and I tried out some of the HD12a and HD10a models, alongside some Yamaha DXR and DSRs, JBLs, EVs, Mackies and QSCs. I went for the RCF HD12a. It is quite astonishing how good it sounded. I bought one...

New Guitar / Pickups or New Patch?

What guitars and pups do you use Longhair?

    Planning a rig...

Yes, I think I'm steering back towards them (God damn this all head spinning). The price is right anyway... sort of. Maybe I'll go with something "better" in the future but I think the K series will be good enough for now. Most people I'll play to will be pissed up anyway. Including me ;)...

    Planning a rig...

I may try and get down to Bicester. Its only an hour drive for me really. O.K, stage one complete. I now have an Axe Fx II (mk2) FW 8.01. I played it most of the night last night through headphones and whilst coming from an Ultra a lot of it seems very familar and similar, where it matters it...

RCF-NX 10 vs 12 , what would you recommed for home playing?

Why would you want two monitors each capable of spitting out more power than a halfstack at home though? Surely that's massive overkill and good quality studio monitors would comfortably suffice? (and much cheaper) Or have you had your home on MTV cribs or something? :)

RCF-NX 10 vs 12 , what would you recommed for home playing?

That wasn't a challenge by the way. I'm still getting my head around all this. To be honest I've never heard of the other brands you mentioned but that doesnt mean much. I'm only just starting to explore FRFR after being a amp and cabs guy for 20 years.

    Relatively cheap? Compared to what?

Got £700 for an active speaker- what to get?

Cool, well to be honest I only really want them for studio and live. I reckon I'll be using headphones at home whilst recording direct into a PC. Or I'll just be using a Spider IV to mess around on. Thanks for the advice.

Got £700 for an active speaker- what to get?

How is it different from a Marshall stack though? I mean, I get that you dont have 4 or 8 celestions moving air but if you've got accurately modelled cab impulses and heads and so on is it really that different? I'm not really looking for a perfect likeness I suppose but I dont want it to...

Got £700 for an active speaker- what to get?

I'm in a similar postion now. I had thought the QSCs were the way to go and I'm suprised to read so much criticism of them. All the youtube vids sounded pretty good. Basically I play a wide mix of stuff from prog to high gain, I should have an Axe II very soon and want something to handle...

    Planning a rig...

Thanks for the advice. I'm going the FRFR route as there's really no need to not make use of the versatility. So I'll hopefully be getting my II this week, and I plan to take it to a shop and try the QSC K10 and K12 and see which is best for me.

    Planning a rig...

O.K, I'll get the unit first and then try out some FRFR stuff. But a lot of the clips Ive heard of the Axe II with Matrix GT1000FX and cabs sound amazing. Would I really get that kind of sound with say... 1 QSC K12? What setup are you running? What kind of sound do you use?

Ok thanks. gin, that sounds a little too crazy for me. :)

    Planning a rig...

I considered the FRFR route with QSC K12s and such but I hear a few people claiming the sound doesn't bite and move air like guitar cabs. It's too... smooth? I guess this wouldn't be such an issue playing some kinds of music but with high gain it might. Also, it's possibly quite expensive...

    Planning a rig...

Hi guys. I recently sold my Ultra, which I never used live and only the occasional recording through an 11R to Reaper. Mainly I used it for noodling and messing around. Now I'm planning an Axe II rig but I'm still fairly new to this world so... what I'm proposing is this. For studio/live...
