I play fingerstyle; the Twin is my usual amp. It's so cool to be able to get the "feel" of a Twin in a 12'x20' room without making my ears bleed. ;) Other amps that I've found "pair well" with fingerstyle playing include the Tweed Deluxe and one of the Trainwrecks (I think it was the Rocket; I...

Axe-Fx II or AX8 for band practice and live shows?

My gut feel is that you could be quite happy with an AX-8 given your musical preferences and experience. BTW, I really like that you've gigged with a stripped-down two-pedal rig into a DI. :) Maybe this becomes an aspirational question for you to answer. As in: what *else* do you think you...

Axe-Fx II or AX8 for band practice and live shows?

For me, the reduced power of the AX8 versus the II was a show-stopper, despite the attraction of a reduced footprint. Is this your first? if so, it's difficult to know how much you can do with each unit. Maybe you should look at presets in the exchange to get an idea of what's possible. Start...

Any dev/tech that can explain how this works?

Any dev/tech that can explain how this works?

Fact. I owned one briefly, sussed the operation by playing it, and asked EHX support to confirm my suspicion. They did.
  11. TieDyedDevil

Any dev/tech that can explain how this works?

It's a comb filter locked to the line frequency. You can do the same thing with a flanger. Disable the sweep and set the delay according to the power line frequency: 16.7ms (60Hz) or 20ms (50Hz). Put the block early in your FX chain, before any distortion. You probably won't like how this...

Live amp solution for the Axe Fx II

I'd also recommend a FRFR setup, specifically a powered speaker. For example, a JBL EON 610 streets at around US$350 and has more than enough power to cover any small (e.g. up to 100 or so patrons) jazz venue. You can definitely spend more: I don't believe that it's necessary to do so.

  30. TieDyedDevil

    Reference quality loop switcher pedal

I agree, up to a point. It'd be nice to see a certification. OTOH, silicon rectifiers tend to fail shorted, so the worst that's likely to happen on a ground fault is to trip the breaker and ruin the Hum-X's ability to isolate ground loops.

    Reference quality loop switcher pedal

OK, got it. Thanks. My preference, FWIW, is to try to fix ground loops without altering the audio path. I've had consistently good results using the Ebtech Hum-X. You plug it into the AC outlet and then plug one piece of gear (normally the one that, when added, causes hum.) You don't change...

  34. TieDyedDevil

    Can't figure out hum issue..

If the safety ground floats, the induced voltage can mimic an RFI issue. In this case, the position sensitivity says that there's an ambient EM field affecting the pickups. But a floating ground can exacerbate the problem.
  35. TieDyedDevil

    Can't figure out hum issue..

What you've described is not microphonic pickups. There may be an ambient electromagnetic field that's being "heard" by your pickups. If you're playing single-coil PUs, switching to a guitar with humbuckers will help. If you're already playing humbuckers, well... Check grounding of the wall...

I believe that you can find "breakaway" instrument cables. The connectors are held on with magnets, so the cable will separate without (theoretically at least, I've never tried one) stressing the jack. Yes, you can use the rear input. IIUC there are some minor tradeoffs involved. Perhaps...

The power supply is "universal", meaning it'll tolerate inputs from (IIRC) 100 to 240 volts. It's not unheard of to see the line drop below 100 volts, especially in situations where the stage is powered by undersized lines. (Obviously, this'd be in countries where the nominal line voltage is...

I wonder whether there may be a phasing problem. That could account for "sounds OK through output" (assuming a mono feed) but "sounds thin in headphones". IOW, if the left and right outputs are out-of-phase (I'm pretty sure that this could happen with certain chorus blocks between amp and...

    Audio Interface to FOH?

No DI needed. The XLRs are already balanced to minimize hum. Do pick up a couple inline XLR pads and some short XLR cables to patch between the AFX and the stage box for those times when the mixer can't handle anything but a mic-level signal.

Anybody confused with two different Fractal rigs?

If all you're worried about is whether it's OK to sell presets, here's a little thought exercise... Is it OK to use a computer program to write a book for sale? AFAICT, that's exactly comparable: you're using software sold by some company to produce an artifact that others are willing to buy.
