These SMD main board class D amps are quite complex and I feel a great quantity of tried-to-mod-it amps ending smoked on the "electronics belt" in Africa. I'd rather go for a good a/b solid state Amp with a good old heavy transformer that can get some guts out of any speaker. No hiss problems...

Matchless Amp - Help please?

Maybe try a guitar with Alnico5 PU, reputed for having more treble output. If you have an IR miced a bit more close "off axis" that also might help. There's so many options... Speaker impedance curve, slightly undermatch (95%) the speaker OT...etc You also can try the Marco Fanton patch

How to get a super wide stereo sound.

Check your axe fx if power Amp and cab Sims are activated. If they are, let's say that few 8" monitors are satisfactory at higher levels. It's a POSSIBLE cause indeed.

You can try to open the patch with Fractool and export the Amp2 block, and then import that block with your FM3. I don't know if you can convert patches between 3rd Gen fractal devices with Fractool.

The problem with the Hotone is that the switches are too close and due to that you sometimes change banks without knowing you did as there is no indication on the display, same for CC values. I kicked it out after 1 month and got the MX-5. The three buttons of the FM3 will do the job if you play...

What's surprising is this "controlled" squeak note that seems to direct to a coding issue in one of the blocks that triggers on certain conditions or a variable that got corrupted or not reset while doing your patch moves. If it were a CPU load issue the unit would just have stopped processing...

How far is your FM3 from Amp and guitar. I experienced a slight his at first use but had everything, voice mic, console, amps fm3 and guitar close to each other. when separating farther away the amps and FM3 all hiss disappeared.

I couldn't stand the Hotone for 2 reasons It's absence of LED's and CCnr's on the small LCD screen on switching The buttons are a tad too close for my big feet and it regularly happened I switched banks while I didn't want to I ended up buying the more expensive but very functionnal VOES MX5...

There's a solution you can use by tapping of 13V from your FAS link port if you do not use that one. I recommend to fuse it with 500mA Ultra Fast fuse. I actually plan to tap this off the power that actually feeds the VOES MX-5 on my pedalboard so to power supply a midiBeam 4Control...

Indeed something seems to be going on in your amplification chain. At the pick attack I hear some buzz/vibration, like if there's a loose screw or some other thing loose in there. Or if your Amp cannot handle +4dBU output signals hence lower to minus -10dBU

Yes I never will sell mine as long as midi exists. It definitely is the most powerful controller ever. I bought mine for 120€ used in 2016 and effectively replaced the display, in 2019. I even had a second one for a while as a backup that I ended up reselling.

Matrix Power Amp on fire at gig

Why not leave class D amps and go for rock solid Crown class A/B amps or similar. Heavy as a dead horse but IMHO the energy available on the transformers is more comfortable for driving guitar speakers.

Exactly what unix guy said. BTW better use 'copy' than 'sum' because of the risk for stereo phasing issues with certain effect blocks when summed. When getting close to the cpu limits, the best way to prevent CPU load issues is using only the necessary blocks for your patch

Interesting. I can run up to 83-85pct without stalling the patches but rarely use more than 3-4 controllers. Maybe also check fast/medium/slow action of the controllers and exp pedals, and use of the preamp and preamp quality in the cab blocks that also affect cpu usage.

Do you think tube amps have a real future?

After 13 years of FAS modeling (and at least so much to go) I just got me a Fender Blues junior "modded" tube Amp and I'm getting a second one soon. Absolutely sounding awesome. Tubes are still great and so the numeric way is. Yes tubes got bloody expensive, prices doubled over the last 10 years...

Soundcraft Ui24 as Audio Interface

Thanks for the tip, wouldn't have thought about that. Effectively with the 24 you get all the tracks, not the case with the Ui12 or the Ui16. Great idea as it can do homestudio but you also have the monitoring options to carry it for small venues or rehearsal rooms.

Loaded on a PC on w8.1, seems to work flawless with 3rd party IR's and .wav files that I got. Havo no DCpack yet as I didn't find any on fractal's e-shop so wait and see.

If it happens at home only, I'd try to check all earthing connections of your rig, maybe tighten up the connections and/or change your multi power outlet if you use any of these, or bypass any power conditioner you might use and that does not have a "true bypass" on the neutral but uses power...

Friedman IR-X

It's 588 Euros here in Europe. And hereto to be at ease you'd likely have to add a noise-gate, a compressor, an exp pedal and some effects maybe....IMHO an FM3 would do the job for a bit more but be just as compact I love the "wooden" sound though, seems a bargain if you only want the amp.
