Excellent playing, excellent tone in the vibe of SRV!

If I had to vote tho, I liked the bit of hair in the 1st one...gave it character for me.
 
Wow, fantastic tones!!! Oh yeah, killer performance too!!!!!! I'm gonna check out your patch for sure. Thanks for sharing.
 
Man, you OWNED that one! Nice tone, nice technique but, most of all, awesome feel/vibe on that one all the way around!

Agreed, the tone was better the second take (not that the first one was bad). Nice job man! I'll do a big +1 to the Jimi poster as well! Thanks for posting the patch. Can't wait to give her a whirl.
 
anybody having issues loading the IR? -- never mine -- rebooted AE and it was there
 
I like the other take. I REALLY liked this take.

I forgot to follow up on the other patch about the JBL D vs E thing -- thanks for the notes on the differences. I wonder why no one has shot E-series IRs? Maybe let M@ know and a new cab pack might include one? The SRV tone seems like a kind of seminal tone to have "in the box". Was SRV using the 15" cones as well or 12"?

Any chance you can post on soundcloud or somewhere a guitar-only version of the clean sound - minus the effects and reverb? I'm guessing if I tone match the basic sound then add the effects back on it will be pretty damn close?

Because the afx2 is so good, every subtlety of your setup (wood, pickups, strings etc) makes a huge difference. The flip side of this is when using other ppl's presets, they tend to sound absolutely nothing like the samples they give. I wonder if the clean-sound tone match approach may be a way around this???

He never used the 12" JBLs for anything. He used the 15" E130 in his Vibroberbs, and I would ASSUME JBL E110s in his supers (but I have no photos of the backs of his super reverbs, only a front view showing the JBL chrome cap).

No one has shot the E-series because they are not wildly known or used. The D series are the speakers that came as an option with Fender amps in the 60s/70s and are the goto JBL for vintage fender sounds. SRV used the E-series because of his volume. He probably HAD a D series in his amps in the mid 70s, but the lower wattage would mean they would blow out every gig! I'm guessing he simply put in the Es since they are rated higher...dunno.

Its interesting to note that in 86 he switched over to all EVM speakers (Diaz signed an endorsement deal with them). I always disliked his tone after this change. Duller sounding. More pleasant, but less energy and lacking that incredible papery JBL tone.

...now if Cliff can get his butt in gear and buy a Steel String Singer to model (Ha, yeah right...most rare of all rare amps), I can start working with THe EVM speakers and THAT amp to further tweak some new SRV patches :)

Here you go... now, keep in mind this is going to sound a bit weird. Reverb is a huge part of SRV's sound, not because of him adding the effect, but because he was so bleeding loud ALL the time, room ambience WAS part of his sound.
