Matrix - Poweramp Modeling on or off?

I may be the worst forum searcher in the world. I looked every way I thought possible to find this answer to no avail..

Question is, When running my Axe Fx 2 to the Matrix GT1000FX and then into a Cab or Two. Do I turn the PowerAmp Modeling off?

I've left it on and it sounds pretty good but would it sound better if off? I don't have my cabs so I cant check. Besides, knowing if it is better to run it or not helps too :)

it should be on but if it sound better to you off then keep it off. After all you are the person that has to be satisfied.

You'll probably want to keep the poweramp modeling on with a Matrix amp. Cab sims are what you want to keep off if you're running through real guitar cabs.

You'd only want to turn off poweramp modeling if you were using a tube power amp you planned on driving really hard so you wouldn't have simulated power amp distortion on top of real poweramp distortion... unless you like that sort of thing, in which case, leave it on!

^^^ like Galo said above though, whatever sounds best to you is what you should do. There is no true right or wrong.

The poweramp modelling is not so much about how it sounds (altho it does impact the sound some too ofc), but how it FEELS. I would suggest having it turned on and rather tweak the other parameters to get the sound you want :)

If you're using real guitar cabs, keep the cab modeling off.

If you're using PA or flat response speakers, keep the cab modeling on.

Depends what cab you run it into. If it's a guitar cab, you generally want it off, since the actual cab will provide the color. If it's an FRFR setup, you'll generally want it on. Try both and let your ears guide you :)

On for me, the Matrix amps respond like a guitar amp but they do not shape the tone and the power amp modelling in the AxeFX shapes the tone quite a bit.

ok cool, I didn't know about Cab modeling at first and left them on. I haven't tried with it off. Its going to be cool to try out :). Is there any specific reason to not use it while running to a real cab? Is there some sort of muddiness or tone loss when its kept on to a cab?

Also, Last question for me in this thread. If I wanted to run a cab on stage and the rest to FOH is it better to keep it on because its going to front of house? Or off because I'm running to a cab? This is where I've been most confused haha.

Thanks guys, you've been a great help as always.

Cabs sims would usually be off, they colour the sound greatly and this would usually be undesirable, however there are no rules here, whatever works for you man!

With the AxeFX you can run cabs sims on and off at the same time. You create your patch with cab sims turned on. At any point in the signal chain after the amp and before the cab block you can connect the FX Loop on a different row. Your setup will then be output 1, cab sim on to FOH, output 2, cab sim off to real cab.

If you are using it for effects only with a guitar amp (4CM, etc.) then you would want the amp sims off. With the matrix you want amp sims ON. If you are using a guitar cab then turn off the cab sims, otherwise keep on.

Fee free to use any combinations that would give YOU the best sound. The above mentioned is the norm.

Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks a ton! I'll start setting up output 2 for FOH :)

Totally understand. I always dialed my tones on monitors so when it came to my cab they still sounded good but something else... was throwing it off. Its probably the Cab sims, if not, the fact that im dialing on flat monitors and playing through a cab? :-P

Just to clarify: you'll want to run Output 1 (using cab sims) to FOH. Run Output 2 (this is what the FX Loop block runs out to, w/o cab simulation) to your real cab.
