FM9 Firmware Version 11.0 public beta #1

i encountered the following after upgrading, only the default amp block page adjusted tube hardness to the new default. Other (b-c-d) went to 0 becoming very flubby. In the cab block i am unable to adjust IR volume to (for example) -1db with the keyboard and press enter, (macOS) only by changing the knob so i end up at -0.96 or -1.02db
Are you using the new version of edit?

An updated version of FM9-Edit is required for use with this release:
https://forum.fractalaudio.com/threads/fm9-edit-1-03-17-to-support-fw-11-00-public-beta-1.216884/

I updated fm9 edit and the volume entry of the cab now works as always. The tube hardness issue remains. I can replicate it by importing an older preset. The amp is the SLP59 treble with modified tube hardness settings.

Although @Louike should confirm the behavior from the front panel to rule out the editor.
Also, I don't think importing an old preset is a proper test. That should restore whatever settings you have in the saved preset.

You could try opening the old preset with FracTool and view the settings... Alternately, revert to the previous firmware and import it to compare.

True, but i think FAS would be able to replicate and fix this without me downgrading and upgrading again.

If I get time, I'll check some FM9 presets today and see if I can confirm.

I actually encountered this behavior over the weekend. The tube hardness of the second Amp block is 0 on all my dual amp presets on this firmware. I had to manually update them.

This behavior doesn't occur on the latest firmware for AxeFX III and I know one of the patch releases included a fix of some tube hardness issues. I'm hoping we see a new Beta soon with the latest updates to the Axe.

So these sound similar but not the same, I think.

@Louike is saying channels other than the default (or possibly specifically channel A) are not updated.

@millman is saying that the issue is in the Amp 2 block.

I won't be able to check until later but tagging @m_brown in case he can confirm.

Edit:

I checked the Axe Fx III release notes and it does mention an issue regarding wrong preamp hardness fix but only got amps using EF86 preamp tubes.

Can you guys confirm which amp models you are seeing this with?

It's a bit worse than I thought. I see it on Amp 2 and if I change channels on either Amp block. Seeing it across all amps. Not just the EF86 preamp tube varieties. Verified on device too. Not just in FM9-Edit.

After installing FW 11 Beta and Dyna cabs the FM9 still functioned sound wise and the footswitches function but none of the main panel buttons are working and when trying to connect with FM9 edit it recognizes the unit is there but won't communicate correctly and fails to load any presets. I had to revert back to FW 10 using the "Emergency Utility Mode", and everything functioned normal again. retried the FW 11 update and ended up with the same results. This was also using the most recent version of FM9 edit.
Has anyone else run into this issue or have any thoughts on what might fix this?

I wonder if all the changes/improvements that were released in 31.03 are going to cause them to skip this current beta all together and the full release will include all the other changes that were implemented since. Guessing theres some private beta testing happening. Or they are resting, which is ok also because its well deserved.

Maybe try redownloading the firmware.

Today i downgraded to v10 and i want to share why i am not upgrading back: i have quite a crazy setup boosting a lot of factors into the input, input trim at 1.4 gain at 9.4 and 20db treble booster input boost (in the preamp tab of the amp block) this might sound like overkill and but it worked for me on the plexi. With the preamp changes of V11 i loose harmonics in the low mids and things become to spongy. making me fiddle around with preamp bias (down) and preamp bias excursion (up). this kinda worked but after downgrading today and loading my old preset i am going to probable stay at v10 forever. i barely noticed any changes from FW8 upward but this one made me reconsider.

This is the way. When you find your sound stay with it. If you have an old amp that you love and it is perfect for you, you don’t swap it for a new one. The newest thing is not always the best. You always end up dialing in whatever gear you get to the same sound that’s in your head anyways. That’s the great thing about Fractal. You can always jump back.

Maybe try redownloading the firmware.
Thank you for the suggestion. It turned out that my walrus audio canvas clock midi clock pedal was causing this. After disconnecting the midi clock pedal it is functioning normally. So I need to investigate that a little bit more, as it wasn’t doing this with FW 10.

I forgot to mention that I reported this issue to the private beta team.

Possible bug that didn't exist on v10. When switching to a preset with a pitch block and delay block in presets that have those effect in a scene ( although seamless) the first delay ring is pitched shifted then the delay returns to normal without it being pitched has anyone experienced this? Thank you in advanced. I would like to add I used to be a Headrush user about a year and a half ago. Their updates were few and far between but their forums were just bad. I sold my unit largely because of that processor was capable of so much more. I don't think I can give enough superlatives to Fractal Audio except to quote an old song " Everyday is Christmas and every night is new years eve" I am so greatful for the updates. Thank you...
