I wanted to do a sample, and this comment just one minute after saying that component thing etc … I gave up.. pff..wasting time …

I know in the internet you are always obliged to justify yourself even when you have done millions of videos and thing that’s prove your not an ass, but yeah .. and then one day you will have « improved maxon 808 » in the notes and they will say wow ****! Thanks Cliff !

There’s objective and subjective, both are important to figure out the puzzle.

Moreso to distinguish which is which.

You can see on the outside and we can see from the inside, both have their values.

put up an issue and you will inevitably meet resistance from all perspectives.

Sure he is the guy don’t get me wrong . Just that I have plenty of « user error » comments before Cliff updates them sometimes , it is more in that way that I was talking. Like I am a fool until Cliff updates it. I want excuses, NOW haha. Joking .
 
This is almost like: Messi has a Free Kick and you say, “put it on the right post”, and he shoots to the left and misses! Then he gets another Free Kick, and this time he shoots to the right post and scores, you then say “See, I told you so”!! LOL

No, it's not about justifying yourself. It's so Cliff can hear what's going on! If it's just like pot tolerances or something, he'll be able to hear that. But if sounds like something else, he'll probably have a good guess. And I agree with the person suggesting taking a picture of the guts too. Maybe it'll be clear if there's a significant component difference.

I was refering to these rights of yours

I don’t have access to your specific pedal to compare to the digital version

Albeit no point as your pedal wasn’t the one modelled in the ax3 anyway.

I did say it could be due to circuit board revisions/tolerances differences …or just something wrong with your pedal if your tone is at noon and it’s not comparable to the one in ax3

Or of course maybe the firmware did do something funky to it

Please share a sample

All of us here are somewhat Beta Testers as we are testing the Beta Firmware before its release!!! I am just appreciative that if we hear something is off and we report it, it gets looked at and if there’s anything to fix or change, it gets done! Try another Product and tell them the same thing…!
 
@My name is mud hey buddy, my post with the schematics was not to say I don't believe your pedal sounds different than the axe model or that there can't be an error/bug on it.
I just don't agree the Maxon can be defined as "transparent" since it is pretty much identical to an Ibanez TS808 and likely has a very similar mid emphasis (unless you have a rare and different version that for some reason doesn't have it).
That's all, never owned one thus don't really know how a real one sounds, but I've built a bunch of TS and derivatives to know that using a different opamp doesn't change as much as what would be needed to make it sound "transparent" or "flat".

To me the perspective is that there is something wrong going on in the axe, maybe the interaction between the effect and the amp, all of this I cannot explain .

This is impressive how it is transparent compared to a ts9

It didn’t change the core of the tone at all, it the mid part. There is not that thing you have with a ts9

I buy one again (my 3rd one?) because I bought a rectifier recently, and I turn it on and it was like « really? » , is it « on »? Exactly the same tone but with a little big more gain and something more « precise »

Now I always do the same ritual when I buy something « new » : « ok let’s compare with the axe ». At the same settings, the maxon in the axe add volume, 2x more gain, mids .. not the same .

When you turn on the real pedal it is exactly the same tone but cleaner. And also I am talking in this high gain context, and as a boost . Like millions users… The maxon with the rectifier is like mayonnaise with fries .

I have a Maxon OD-808. I'll have to test it out one day to see if I can hear any difference in sound compared to the VP4 or FM3 version. At least I haven't heard any difference in my QC capture. 😏

That’s a good angle on it actually since there was a recent update on the interaction of amp input for 31.01

We’ll see what bossman has to say

It is the goal of the discussion !
to the ones that own one : put it in the front of the axe, turn it on with a Marshall a boogie what you want, and do the same with the one in the axe, with the basic boost mode setting gain zero, tone 5, level 10 .
