Friedman JEL type tone help

My understanding of the JEL is that it's a plexi on one channel and a plexi with a bit of boost on the other. I'm rocking the 1959 with some hair, probably close.

I've got a good friend with a 2203 modded to JEL spec. Increasing the brit 800 model's negative feedback and depth controls, as well as bumping the input trim got very close.
Sounds good … try it tonight
Also did a channel 1 version with the 800 and a plexi tone stack

I own a JEL and have been a Fractal user since first gen.

The JEL is a plexi on the "clean" channel and a modded JCM800 on the dirty side. The mod seems to have a bit in common with #34 when the boost on the channel engaged, it's got that high-end brilliance of #34 but it's still thicker in the mids and lower mids. Sort of combines the vibe of #34 with AFD maybe? The elusive part (and what sold me on the amp) is the string-to-string clarity even with close voicings thru lots of gain. I'm totally Fractal live because I need tons of textures but in a setting where I could play more organically and get by with a few go-to sounds, the JEL would be a really cool choice. I play better thru that amp lol, it just feels so good. The plexi side on the 20 watter isn't as epic as the plexi side of the Smallbox but Dave has assured me that the plexi side of the 50W JEL sounds (and feels!) like the plexi channel of the Smallbox (which must be "felt" to be appreciated).

I agree that the #34 is a good place to start. You need to find ways to thicken it a bit. I've also gotten into the ballpark blending FAS Brootalz with Atomica High. It's a process though.

Cliff.... I've owned a few Friedmans and the JEL is a real winner. Give us the 50 watter!!
