Not happy with helix? ;)
Actually I had the Axe Standard, Ultra, 2, 2XL and III, got the Helix Floor + Native and Stomp additional to the III and sold the III then (even with a ultra silent Noctua fan, the thing was so annoying in my studio because the fan doesn't have enough clearance in the rackhousing).
Now I need more sophisticated programming with multiple parallel paths because we started to play more and more Dann Huff and Luke and Van Hagar stuff with the cover band. So big 80ies rack sound. I started to implement certain pedals in the FX Loop of the Helix but without quite some more external switching it wouldn't work and carrying even more gear is annoying. I also added the Native via USB but I HATE having a laptop on stage even tho it gives me limitless CPU basically because the latency of the plugin and usb doesn't matter on parallel Reverbs and Delays. We play without click on purpose to keep a different dynamic of the show and especially on certain Pink Floyd songs they change tempo up to 8bpm in solos or other parts. So having a laptop just as a soundprocessor on stage is still a no go for me and if something stops working my guitar sounds like a dry fart in the wind
So IF Fractal got the input dynamics (which is normally a hardware thing) figured out with the new software, I'll go with the FM9 because I still love the grid and freedom of placing blocks. Also the footswitch programming is so versatile. As a customer I'm honestly very happy about brand like L6 and Neural because the push the industry forward and therefore fractal also released cool new stuff.
Now I could only whish for a FM9 with III processor power

And yet they are still not quite at the TI keystone performance which is now like almost a decade old. I wonder if TI will have any response (probably not , before I left TI there wasn’t any appetite by the bosses to keep investing in DSP)
Really? that's insane!

I sense the possibility of this turning kinky...

No kidding....?!?!? I find that somewhat astounding...I'd think DSP would be a market worth continually pushing the state-of-the-art but....???

Do the new SHARC like open the possibility to have a tiny FM3?
Having so much fun with ToneX One this summer… I mean it’s sounding like my AFIII Dizzy amp block and can be used as a usb audio interface on my iPad. Crazy.
Now I want a tiny fractal audio device without any noisy fan inside

So many options for a new products and a lot of wants covered but was it mentioned anywhere that this new product was hardware? Could it be some kind of soft product allowing streamlined management of presets scene etc that will work in tandem with axe edit ?

Yes
No

I should have thought it through better maybe but I guess firmware indicates a new product? But firmware could indicate an existing product. It was just a thought thanks!

What indicates a new product is this quote from the link in post number one of this thread, upon which the entire discussion was based:

"The engineers are spread a bit thin right now as we have a new product coming out in the next few weeks and they're putting the finishing touches on the firmware."

(note: emphasis mine)

Technically that paragraph doesn’t say new hardware it says product. A new add on soft product could need firmware work on existing hardware. The also said it wouldn’ replace any current hardware.

Will it be new hardware maybe but my point is it doesn’t have to be and still fit with that original paragraph.

I guess it’s all in ones POV.

some mysterious add-on box with upgrades/replacements or additions that existing devices connect to, so there won't be a need for a full-fledged AFX4?

Don't ask me what that would be exactly or how it would work, though.

I don't think so.

It's a more powerful DSP chip, but probably not smaller.

Also, more power means more heat and that means (usually) a bigger chassis to allow for dissipation of the heat unless you have some active cooling. And people already complain about the existing fan noise...
