What’s your choice of Amp model(s) with best “feel under the fingers” ?

id like to ask how you guys audition amps when cabs can make such a huge difference.

That is "La madre del cordero". A very popular Spanish idiom that transliterated means "The mother of the lamb" (the lamb of god, i.e.: Jesus).
It can either mean: "the crux of the matter" or "the troublemaker"

for a good rock tone, the Atomica Hi caught my attention first because i saw steve steven's rebel patch and started playing w it. then i found the friedmans. im using a combo of 2 (2010 & BE v2). still tweaking but really enjoying. been using them w a couple 4x12 fractal cabs (gb & v30).

cleans i havent explored too much yet. one of moke's presets turned me onto i think the ac20. using bassmans too.

Yeah, good question.

Kinda like, how do you set your treble control when mids and bass make so much difference?

And how do you set your guitar tone controls when the amp makes so much difference?

Might seem like I'm just screwing around, but no, all these things really ARE interdependent, and there's no flash of insight that's going to make that go away.

I think the real answer is you go with your gut. Explore, try stuff. You can't possibly examine every combination, even leaving aside the 367 bazillion permutations of settings in the Axe, so you let your inner compass lead you on. Not every branch is a revelation, but hopefully some are fun.

That's all I got.

They do make a huge difference. Joe Bonamassa described one of his Dumble combos as "awful" before he changed the speaker. I've definitely heard amps that I "don't like" into a different cab that completely changed it for me.

IDK...I keep writing out this long thing about the cabs I've liked/disliked IRL, the way that's informed how many IRs I even bother listening to, the fact that the precise cabs available are why I haven't played with DynaCabs yet...I don't think I actually care about any of those cabs right now.

But...I also don't play different amps all that often. I've found a few favorites...and most of the other amps I'm interested in are "variations on a theme" to the extent that I could probably pick any of them and be happy. And it's kinda the same with cabs. I've "collected" about a half dozen cab blocks in my block library....and I pretty much always use one of those. And they were kinda quick after I got my FM3, based on cabs I knew I wanted to try from experiences IRL or things that I'd heard recorded and knew what they were. Actually, since that first couple months...I've only added one to the "collection" (which is also my current favorite).

It kinda boils down to....cut out anything you're pretty sure you don't like, play with the stuff that's left, and only really go digging when you think you're close. At least, that's how I do it. I also have no problem EQing after the cab if I think that's going to be quicker.

Dirty Shirley and Dirty Shirley 2 dual amp/cabs with YA Mesa $1 IR’s! I get clean scenes and then with scene controllers i will boost the gain setting and hit with the compulsion HP drive.

Wonderful playing! I just found you on IG. Have a Blessed day! :)

DUDE! that's an amazing solo... It kind of looks like there's a pattern at the beginning that repeats as you move from the high E to the low E string and then back up to the high E string. If I wanted to learn that, could you point me in the right direction? I'm really trying to improve my playing.

Thank you brother. Well there’s two ways you learn this and more. 1: use YouTube to slow down the recording and learn by ear or 2: take a lesson with me. If you’re interested in a private DM me and we’ll go from there. 🤙🏼

Hi everyone,
Even in South Korea, Fractal Audio's reputation for sophisticated and wonderful sound is great (at least to me).

I started with Fractal Audio Systems with the Ax8 model and am currently using the Fm3 MK2 Turbo. Complete freedom. I don't think any further expressions are necessary.

My favorite amp since Ax8 has been the Wrecker Express.
I love the sheer, sparkling feel of this amp with the SDD PREAMP drive boost at low gain, and I love playing
chewing riffs at high gain with the amp's additional 10-band EQ.

I have learned so much from this forum over the past 8 years and have received countless great lessons from you Fractal Gurus. Everyone, please keep making and playing the great music and Thank you. :D:D

i might do both. i think i could learn it by ear and love a good challenge, but i also want to understand more about HOW you constructed it so i can apply it to future soloing efforts. what's your yt channel?

been working on the solo to Feel Your Love Tonight by VH. amazing how many notes i didnt really hear until listening more closely and the speed and dexterity required is off the map incredible. doubtful I'll ever get the speed. ...but i pretty much kniw what he's playing now.

much appreciated!

SLO. Crank it, boost tf out of mids and cut some lows with the pre EQ, go back and cut some mids with the post EQ (I like the passive 5-band). Same story with the 5150 block letter, but BMT settings look a little weird.

And another +1 for the Tucana. It's a sign of a great amp when you can dial in clean to mean with just GBMT on the same model.
