FM3 Firmware Version 5.03

We were told two months ago that they started working on version 6. The amount of time this takes makes me a little pessimistic about future releases. It reminds me of the AX8 where the last release took time to finish and then only came with partial Ares modelling.
Hope I am wrong...

The FM3 in its current state sounds and feels awesome and is capable of more that I will ever need, but a new firmware always cheers me up. So I hope there will still be a couple down the road for this nice little device.

They said "We will keep you updated as we close in". If I'm understanding this correctly, I am not sure I'd expect a public beta today, provided there hasn't been further communication since.

Hopefully before L6 releases 3.2 or this thread reaches 9k posts like on tgp….:)

The sky is not falling... There's been zero mention of updates stopping for the FM3. Please don't start that ball rolling.

The new firmware is being tested as mentioned, and a lot of updates had since happened for the Axe Fx III which likely means that firmware 6 will be another big one (I suspect including some or maybe all the recent changes).

Hard to say when fm3 will stop receiving updates.

But, it appears to me, that even though axe fx does receive updates very often anyway, there's been numerous important stuff lately that may be more than smaller tweaks.

It may not be an easy decision when to say "good enough" and port over changes to the fm3. And what I've noticed is features typically aren't ported over before they're seen as "mature enough" on Axe FX 3.

That probably helps in having less bug fixes when stuff gets ported over, fixes being more specific to fm3 ports.

Yet it wouldn't surprise me if fm3 updates aren't as sparse in the near future. They may even be more regular, eventually, as opposed to there being nothing at all, probably partly depending on what goes on with axe fx 3.

This is partly me saying the current longer wait time doesn't have me assume "this is it". Maybe some of the CPU optimization stuff even helps future updates more so than (some of) fractal's other work has.

If the FM3 were to go turbo…. I’ve changed my mind in that I would upgrade… mainly for having a backup if one goes down live. Having my whole rig in one box is problematic if Murphy’s law is true… which it has proved to be in my case.

But having said that, the FM9 is as good as not existing because they’re not usually readily available. Makes me wonder even if they did upgrade the FM3, would supply keep up w/demand?

If they’re able to keep readily making them it makes me think they’ll be around for a while longer.

Have you ever thought about getting a Stomp to use in your effect loop? You could offload some CPU demands to the Stomp and have a built in back up at the same time...and all with a small footprint.

I agree with this. I will also say that, even if the FM3 goes turbo, the only upgrade from my FM3 I'd be interested in would be the full AxeFX3. For my purposes, the FM3 is the perfect tool. There's really no competition with its price point, size, and capabilities.

I sold my stomp to help pay for the FM3. I do somewhat regret it for the B/u reason… but it was last year during lockdowns and I just couldn’t do it otherwise.

I don’t lack cpu at the moment, but if they did go with FM3 turbo, I’d be able to have exact same sounds in B/u and be able to continue w/updates if updating the current fm3 becomes untenable.

Just need one last good update to say goodbye and to feel that warm fuzzy peacefulness one more time before I get clean and stop updating.
And then Im all set with this shit always waiting around like a moron-
I mean it this time I’m done.

Still on 5.02 and almost that feeling ;) ... still hope for:

  • global blocks
  • song/setlist with a dynamic list of song sections instead of a limited list to 6 in total
  • noise filter like the ISP decimator

Soundwise, I'm pretty much settled :D
Would appreciate more bass amps and the clean channel of the Lerxst Omega - but that's it ... :)

Seeing how axe and Fm9 keep updating and Fm3 nothing....

Relax guys. It’s coming. Updates for the FM3 are probably the toughest to implement because FAS is trying to give us stuff from the faster units despite its limitations. I’m looking forward to the Klon and the thump for sure. It sounds great as is so I’m ok with the wait.
