Word guys

Turff from Screaming Mechanical Brain here again. I've posted a few clips here and there over the last couple months and I had a new video for the song "How We Became a Monster" that is on our upcoming full length. So we finally got around to releasing a demo and I figured we should just somewhat sync it up with a video because no one can pay attention to just music on the internet nowadays (and who blames you, there is porno to be had at a moments notice!)

The song was recorded mostly with my trusty PRS Custom 24 with Bareknuckle Pickups, an Axe FX Ultra on the guitar.

Opinions and critiques always welcome.

NICE SOCKS!!! Good stuff, can't wait till your cd comes out! Really looking forward to it, I'm starved for this type of music. I like a wide range of musical styles and you guys, Bungle, Tub ring, DFD, Crotchduster, Carnival in coal, Polkadot Cadaver are the type of bands that mix it up!

Did you mic your cab or run direct? You recorded, mix and masterd this yourself right? Any chance on getting some insight from you?

and yeah, I do all the mixing and mastering myself. As far as what your hearing, thats just an ultra DI'ed into my set up. Live I mic my cabs (although they arnt in that video, it was WAAAY to small of a club, so we played it like a punk rock band :-D )

I'd love to run my axe DI live but far to often I find us shoved into a club that is to small for our set up so I like having my VHT stuff that I can just open up and let rip. It's not as consistant as the DI but it's just the nature of the game at the level I'm at.

If we did a big national tour opening for someone again though I'd probably leave the cabs at home and just DI everynight.

But yeah, feel free to ask away.

What Bareknuckles are you using? Did you do the bass with the axefx? What kinda post processing do you use on the guitars? And what do you use for the vocals?

Using a set of Nailbombs. Although I'm planning on buying a set of warpigs here soon for my CE-24. Experiement with the two, see what I like more and then as I put together my custom PRS I'll decide what I want in those.

Bass is actaully all Podfarm Platinum. and the only post processing on the guitars is a cut of everything below 100hz. The other trick I do to help the guitars sound good though is I put EQ dips in the keyboards and vocals where the guitar sits. Just something like a -3db cut with a really wide Q around 750 hz. It helps keep everything else outa the way, then I boost vocals and keys above 10k where nothing from the guitar really exists.

Helps it all be a bit more defined and not as much of a big wall of mush.

You have no idea how true you are.

The story of our DIY tours we've done has always either been a bunch of kids playing chiptunes on laptops then we kick in like a death metal band, or conversely we get put on a hardcore bill and eveyrone watches all the lights and beeps and goes "This shit is pussy, I can't throw down"

...and the 12 people already include all of your band members and me, so there should be about 7 more around...
