The most impactful for me is Guthrie Govan. Seeing the GG Larry Carlton track for the first time, floored me. The rest is history.

Honorable mentions:

Jack Gardiner
Plini
Martin Miller
Andy wood
Brad Paisley
Bret mason
Guthrie Trapp
Jack Ruch

I'll always have a soft spot for Hammett. He's the reason I picked up a guitar.

This isn't who I think are the "best" guitarist, but the guitarist that have been most influential on me/I have likely listened to the most:

George Harrison
Jimi Hendix
Duane Allman
David Gilmour
Jerry Garcia
Frank Zappa
Trey Anastasio (my personal favorite)
Jimmy Herring
Derek Trucks
Warren Haynes
Jake Cinninger
Jon Gutwillig
Dean Ween

For me it has always been about creativity and using the guitar to create unique sound(s). I will skip the obvious ones previously mentioned like Hendrix, SRV, Zappa, Clapton, Townshend, ..... For me the following heavily influenced me. Sadly I can't even begin to hold a candle to any of them, but I do appreciate them, and have learned a lot from listening to them.

Robbie Robertson
Gurf Morlix
Paul Kossof
Tab Benoit
Neal Casal
Joni Mitchell
Eddy Shaver
Bruce Cockburn
Blake Schwartzman
Martin Barre
David Grissom
Larry Coryell
Kurt Cobain
Mark Bolan

Being fair, I have to list some of the others mentioned earlier, specifically Jerry Garcia and Frank Zappa.

For Pete Townshend check out However Much I Booze. For me, the ability to create a unique tone like he did on that cut is what inspires me.

John Petrucci
Edward Van Halen
David Gilmour
Alex Lifeson
Tommy Emmanuel
Paul Gilbert
Jimmy Page
Randy Rhoads
Trevor Rabin
Stanley Jordan
Robbie Blunt
Steve Vai
Neal Schon
Ritchie Blackmore
Yngwie Malmsteen
John Sykes
Peter Frampton
Les Paul
Tom Scholz
Steve Lukather
Terry Kath
Don Felder
Ron Thal

Every one of these guitarists have awed me, made me want to learn something they wrote, and/or given me great pleasure in some way or another.

Edit: And also frustrated me to the point of wanting to quit!

Steve Vai

Dave and Adrian
