I was wondering about that, too - I'm guessing they're using some sort of sophisticated impulse response, meaning they can't simulate any effect of the amp that depends on previous state? For that matter, I'm not really sure how they can model non-linear effects.

Once you have figured out the behaviour of the individual components (machine learning?!?), if one writes a proper state machine to continuously process the input signal then there you have it. Name it Cygnus, put a label on it and give to the masses.
