Wish: simple MOD block

I see a lot of guys needing extra blocks. If we had a simple MOD block that contained dumbed down simple modulation fx this might help those guys.
For example it would contain a generic Chorus, Flanger, Phaser.
Maybe just name it BLOCK 5

We're not getting any extra blocks. That said I love the idea of a generic mod block. I know it won't happen, but if there was a master type block type (chorus, flanger, trem, etc) and then specific effect type selection. That would for example allow a shift from chorus to trem vastly increasing the flexibility of scene mode.

A “generic” chorus/flanger/phaser would still need to contain code for a chorus, a flanger and a phaser, all rolled into one block. That would be a monster of a block, even if you “dumbed down” the effects.

I think dumbing down the algorithms would be a mistake. The number-one differentiator for the AM4 is Fractal-quality tones. Take that away, and the AM4 becomes just another multi-effect device. “What’s the big deal? It sounds like all the other guys.”

It may be possible to do something like this with the delay block, however then you would not be able to run mod and delay at the same time.

I'm not so sure about that as they are all basically phase shifters implemented slightly differently, Chorus and flange both use delay the former with pitch modulation, phasers typically use filters rather than delay. Trem is mostly volume modulation (though Fractal includes some more complex implementations).

But again, I'm not expecting it to happen. It's more of a pipe dream than real ask.

EDIT: Just to satisfy my curiosity, I can turn the delay block into a chorus or flange without issue. Granted nowhere near the flexibility of the dedicated blocks but it's absolutely possible.

Does @2112 have this equivalent via channels in his block library? I feel like that's a yes?

Were you replying to me? I haven't seen his AM4 libraries. Chorus and flange are easy to dial in on the delay block but then it becomes a game of compromises in terms of having a delay block which I tend to use for ambience over reverb (and yes I know the reverb can be used for delay)

To the request in general. A generic MOD block would be great but I know I have watched a number of LT vids over the years doing multipurpose stuff with a single block of whatever FAS device was being demo'd at the time.

Ah right. With the delay block one can do all of the following:

Delay
Chorus
Chorus+Delay
Flange
Flange+Delay

So honestly...if we had a multi-tap delay it could absolutely be used as a generic mod block even more so than the dual delay can be used right now. And if we had per channel controllers, that would allow the use of an LFO "trem" for a single channel of an amp.

Chorus and flangers are similar, and can be built from similar algorithms. Phaser is a different beast. I think of plex delay as a modulation effect also. Way different beast, though.

Plex Delay isn't in the AM4, I'd love to have it but that's beside the point.

I can literally build a chorus or flange in the dual delay block today so grouping those into one block wouldn't be some massive tax on the processor and I seriously doubt trem nor phase would add that much.

But like I said, I don't see Fractal doing it just a pipe dream.

I think with the new ICONs plugin having a MOD block that gives hope for a general mod block to makes its way into the range. Would be great to have.

I added my own "Mod" block by putting a Line 6 HX One in front of the AM4 - I love it because it's not restricted at all by effect types and I can have it load different effects by the AM4 sending it midi commands right from the AM4 scenes or by me cycling a few favorite effect presets - The bad part is my list of favorites is getting longer and longer. Right now I am using it for stacking a second drive in front of the Am4, or Chorus, Pitch, Poly Capo, Comp, Tremelo. I may also set up a Delay block pre amp so I can do some washy pad stuff along with the AM4 Delay and Reverb blocks.
