Where should I run a drive pedal in the chain?

I am using 4 cable method. If I run the drive pedal after output 1, near the FX8 on the ground, I lose the humbuster noise cancelling effect because the cable from the pedal to the amp input is not a humbuster. Obviously I can only run a humbuster from output 1 to the input of the pedal, which is like a 1 foot cable -not very effective. Again, running a humbuster from the pedal output to the amp input is pointless.

So, is it ok to put the drive before the input on the FX8? I realize I would not be able to use the wah or compression with the drive pedal, but I don't usually do that anyway. In this scenario, I could still run the humbuster from output 1 to the amp input. However, I am not sure if it is ok to run gain before the FX8 input.

Thanks

It's ok to use even a short humbuster cable between FX8 and the pedal, you can still benefit from the ground-lift function of the cable.
