What is this for?

This is used during the testing process. There is firmware that gets connected and allows the screen to boot and download other files that make the FX II sound so good. It is removed after that step in the process.....

Armin - make an interface for your brain and that slot and you are all good to go. Brain controlled Axe-FX!! :D
 
It is a U-237 Space Modulator connector.... I'm glad that they did not install it, then the Martian's would rule the Earth (or what would be left of it), they also would have all of the AxeFX II's..
 
Didn't read the thread but from the surrounding circuitry you can quickly tell that most likely it is a CS8416 in the 28-pin QFN.

Ah, well. There *are* some flash chips right there in plain sight, eh? :) Still, not a bad guess. Was definitely thinking it a strange thing to socket.
