What guitar are you playing today?

Nice!

I like those tuners, they've worked well for me.
I've had good success with the SD90. One of the stock tuners on this one was on it's way so I waited patientily for Next Gen Guitars to get the SD510 with tulip buttons. The main difference I think is the plastic insert for the tighter fit?

Easy install :)

I didn't know about the plastic inserts. Is that where the button is attached to the tuner or where the tuner is inserted into the headstock? Or ...?

Yes, it's a rubbed oil finish. The design was inspired by a sunken pirate ship. Fittingly, it weighs as much as a boat anchor (9.5 pounds). 🤣

The neck mimics a Fender soft V, and similar to a maple neck/fretboard, the curly swamp ash neck and fretboard are integrated and a single piece of wood. It feels luxurious and sultry, like any premium satin finish. Kip said he and his team worked on and off for months perfecting the neck / fretboard finish and feel; it was "a labor of love" for them, and it definitely shows in the final product.

The SD Antiquity pickup is surprisingly hot and also extremely bright when encased in 100% Swamp Ash. This is the only guitar in my collection where the tone knob gets used as much as the volume knob.

Kip Elder has since expanded his workshop and now has his own lineup of unique custom guitars: Tomcat, Hustler, and Maverick. They describe themselves as "Vagabonds, Beatniks, Delinquents... Whatever you call us, we're rock 'n roll!".

So sweet. I thought from the pics the neck was oiled. That's my preferred neck finish these days.

I just zoomed in and could see the "skunk stripe" on the back of the neck for the trussrod. It's nicely done, very discreet.

It does kinda like it was built with ancient sunk lumber. I dig it. 9.5 lbs is pretty hefty, but it’s probably a fair trade-off for the tone.

Not surprised you're using the tone control a LOT - that combination could take heads off!

Enjoy!
