Van Halen vs Racer x

I always thought the first Bulletboys album was totally a VH homage, especially since it was produced by Ted Templeman, and it’s a great piece of work. Totally different guitarist, but also great.

VH by a mile. Nothing wrong with Racer X and I listen to them when they were relevant in the 80's, but it's been forever since then. Just listened to a song on YouTube, ugh. The singing isn't my cup of team and the music is really more towards speed metal. Bands don't seem to be that similar.

A friend described Jeff Martin's singing as "filthy," and I think that's an apt description. I love his sound! There's one part of Hotter Than Fire where he sings "I ain't no Mr. Clean," and you can hear in his voice that he means it. I kind of love that on the first couple of albums he sang with an absolute persona. I'm not relevant at all in the way anyone usually means, so I really gravitate to the sound of those records as a whole. The Street Lethal album was recorded in three days, and it sounds like it!

Marq Torien was a beast of a singer and guitarist. Not a lot of people know he was such a great
player. Was in Ratt before Warren but was let go because he was too much Eddie for them. :)

Is he better known for singing in Racer X or playing drums in Badlands, MSG, and Dokken---among others. :)

Oh Man, I had no idea! That's interesting. It's interesting to me because I love Racer X, but I'm lukewarm at best about those other three bands (even though I think George Lynch is like a damn force of nature). I do like a handful of songs from Back for the Attack though. Don Dokken is the world's most passionless singer. It's like being impotent in a porno. I remember thinking Badlands had one kind of cool song, but I couldn't go for the rest as much as I love Jake E. Lee. And I've been meaning to try MSG again, but I just never got around to trying their discography in full. The little I did hear didn't do it for me.
