Unintentional muting with Ableton Live

Axe-Fx III MkII - FM 14.05
Ableton Live 11 beta on a Macbook Pro running Catalina 10.15.7
Output over USB via chs 3/4 to Output 2
Arrangement View - Master Volume automated to fade out to -inf over last 8 bars of arrangement.

BUT sometimes the Axe-FxIII stays muted after the fade. If I reboot the Axe all is well... for a while.

Are you automating the track fader in the DAW or using MIDI messages to control the volume on the Axe III directly?

The fade is automated in Ableton Live. I am not sending MIDI to the Axe III.

That's likely going to be an Ableton issue then. Track automation should have no impact on the Axe III's output.

except closing and re-opening Live has no effect, but rebooting the Axe III does.

Are you still able to get direct guitar tones through the Axe when this happens?
