Two Microphones

Hi all, hopefully this is a simple answer.

Can you plug two different microphones into L and R of input 2 respectively in Axe FX III? I would like to have two locations for vocals, but having the same effects.

You will need two mic preamps.

I have tried the tube pre for vocals on my FM3 and it sounded kinda nice. So I’m hoping to get by without a preamp.

Some mics are hot enough to work if you connect them directly without a preamps. You'll need to try it. I've used an SM57 directly for vocals. Try it. If it works for one, it will work for two.

Personally needed to boost another ~ 20db instead of 40 without it digitally but sounds good with my sm7b (dynamic mic)

If your mics require phantom power , the axe fx does not provide those

What I have are SM58 and SM57. Both dynamic mics, don’t need phantom power.

I don’t have a Fx III yet, certainly will try once I get one.

In short, sure(!) it will work. I’ve run a behringer SM58 knockoff directly in, although a mic pre is preferable.

You might need to pan them hard to split them, I reckon you’d end up wanting a separate line for each to control EQ and volume separately.
