Tried a JP Majesty for the first time

I was also not a fan of the crunch lab or if I'm totally honest any of the pickups on the JP guitars. I did like the Liquifire neck though. Had the illuminators in my JP15 and took them out. I love JP and Dream Theatre but that's not my playing style nor is it my tone so I get why his pickups are voiced the way they are.
 
The neck pickups are more alike than the bridge ones.
But yeah, the pickups are voiced for high gain mesa boogie amps, maybe that's why it doesn't sound glorious on amps that have drastically different eqing and stuff.
