still a difference between front and rear inputs?

I remember this big deal about the front input being different (special sauce) than the rear. Is that still the case or has this disparity been fixed?

Different on purpose. Front input is designed for high impedance guitar and bass pickups. Rear inputs are designed for line level signals.

The impedance on front and rear are the same. The rear (other than not having analog/digital processing to lower perceived noise floor and the ability to change/lower impedance (to emulate the impedance of fuzzes, wahs, etc)) is just optimized for a stringer signal. But absolutely right, it is by design.
