[solved] Trouble getting Output 3 to output a signal

I'm trying to use Input/Outputs 3/4 as an effects loop for the first time. Output 4 seems to work fine, but no matter what I do I can't get a signal to output 3. I've confirmed outputs 3 and 4 are configured identically in the menus.

I've built a stupidly simple preset to test this - I have input 1 -> outputs 3 and 4. I then have input 3 connected to output 1, which is connected to my studio monitors.

If I connect a normal TS patch cable from output 4 -> input 3, I get a signal. If I connect output 3 -> input 3 with the same cable, I get nothing.

Any ideas? I've attached some screen shots and my presets to help.

Oh my! I feel like a grade A moron - I totally forgot there were independent hardware knobs for each output!.

So yes, turning the volume up to anything other than "all the way down" in fact fixes the problem!
