Solos that are songs in and of themselves?

I'd vote for most anything by David Gilmour -- a sublimely lyrical soloist. Songs like Comfortably Numb, Money, etc., where you can sing along with the solo just like the verse, plus they add dynamic heft.

Others who would be on my list would be people like Joe Walsh (solo or Eagles), Mike Campbell and Billy Gibbons. Not the flashiest, fastest, but always melodic and on the money in ways that serve the song.

Oh, yeah. Definitely add Gary Moore with Still Got The Blues!

Not that any of you know my band's music, but actually quite a few my solos are like mini songs...

It's something I really like, and I pride myself on playing solos like that.

Many times in rehearsal my singer will sing the solo while I'm playing it!
