I wouldn't even know how to comply with this ominous threat.
 
There are so many breaches available to the public now, and some of them contain clear passwords, that it makes this kind of scam very easy to perpetrate. People are starting to get wise to these scams, so they've died down lately.

In any case, never trust a site to store your password hash properly, so never use the same password twice. And, it's a good idea to routinely visit haveibeenpwned.

Funny... I got that mail just a couple days ago. Sure thing, at first it freaked me out they had the password, but upon some research I figured out their M.O. and yes, I chuckled as it was just a couple weeks ago since I saw THAT episode from Black Mirror, so much that I was tempted to reply with the Troll Face meme, LOL.
 
phone calls = most likely a scam

door to door (even girl scout cookies) = many times a scam

face to face transactions = many times a scam

internet interactions = many times a scam


I fear that the IRS will really call, the police are looking for me, the handy capped child at the door wasn't getting drug money for her mother in the distant car, I did win the Nigerian lottery, the cashier at the bank did make an honest mistake with the cash deposit I gave her, the drive through person didn't really take a picture of my credit card, guitar center didn't steal my debit card info, the free catalog I just signed for online didn't really sell my info to spam sites, my granddaughter really is stranded in Canada and needs money wired to get home!!!!!!!!!!!!

The list goes on and on but it really is scary that we won't pay attention to important things or automatically distrust everyone and everything. This type of crime should carry a heavy penalty imo :mad:
 
The ones I've been seeing a lot are posing as my bank saying security breach / invalid login attempts / etc. They'll have the bank logo etc, but they're clearly spam... one way to tell is if you cursor over the link it's always some random address. Another is the from address which isn't from the bank. Many of them come from companies I don't even use. One just came from "PayPal" asking me to log in.

BE WARY!!
 
Even if it was legit, who's worried about being caught at looking at a few "grownup sites"? I love interacting with grown ups.

hehe, I got one of these. they got my low level forums password. made me laugh. really went out on a limb with the 'web cam' reference (I specifically don't have one). now i live in constant fear that they will log in to bandmix and post on my behalf (hehe).
 
Yep, everybody gets those.

It's complete horses*** from end-to-end. Normally they send it to you "from your own e-mail address," using forged headers. Then they claim that they achieved this script-kiddie feat by "figuring out your e-mail password, so you see, we're in complete control of your life, muahahahahaha!"

And it always includes the wink-wink, nudge-nudge line about capturing you on your webcam while you're looking at porn. I guess they figure that if they send this e-mail to 100K people, it's a safe bet a lot of them have been doing that...but it's a bit of a giveaway if you know you haven't. (Or if, like @mistermikev, you don't have a webcam.)

Just ignore it.
 
One day, I got such a mail promising me a video of myself doing nasty things while looking at tasty things taken by the computer camera.

Still waiting to see how you can do this with my Mac mini :)
