RIP Ozzy

When I was 8 years old, just gotten my first guitar, my dad took me to the music store to sign up for lessons. When the guys at the shop asked me what kind of music I wanted to play, all I could timidly say was "I wanna play Iron Man." While I never actually ended playing/performing that song, several years later "Paranoid" would be a staple in my first band, with a painfully long extended guitar solo section trading back and forth with the other guitarist.

While ultimately over the years, other artists would end up being bigger influences on my overall sound and style of play, Ozzy's music certainly was at or near the top of reasons I picked up the guitar in the first place. I'm sure a great deal of artists out there would say the same. So many great bands have existed (and so many of us have this great hobby) in no small part due to his enormous influence, something for which I will always be grateful.

My mom was keen on Sabbath in her youth/young adulthood (and Hendrix, Cash and Stones, I think). She stopped listening to and never promoted Sabbath to my brother and me, when we were kids - because of the drugs and his antics.

When we were early teens, she basically told us what bad guys he and Cash and about everybody else who ever took drugs were ('cause drugs are bad, mmkay?).

When Dreamer came out, she couldn't help herself and started listening again, at least to some of the new, solo stuff. I don't know how long it lasted, and if she listened to old Sabbath again.

She was basically gushing over him and how great he was and so glad that he had that kind of a comeback.

I pressed her on the aforementioned matter, not just regarding him, but Cash as well (he had a renaissance with her, too).

She said "What else should I've said/done? But now you're out of the house and old enough, so I can listen to what I want again."

No one was bigger than Ozzy when i was young. Introduced the world to one of my favorite players... Jake!!
Also on a different kind of thing... The Jack and Ozzy world detour is some of the funniest stuff ever! Its hard to tell if he's just doing a bit or if he's really THAT goofy!! But very sad passing of a legend.

Taken a while for me to be able to come to terms with this properly. Like every other fan, he's been in my life my whole life. God knows what Sharon will do next. I don't like the fact that we're starting to have to look at our musical landscape that we love, through the rear view mirror. I find it all quite difficult to deal with to be honest.

I know a lot of people are saying he was holding on, and we knew about the health struggles but most of that was down to mobility issues after those crappy back surgeries. It doesn't appear that anyone close to him was expecting this at all. Tony Iommi just gave an interview over here on tv saying Ozzy had text him like normal just the day before, and there was no indication anything like this was about to happen. Kelly put a short video up a few days before, so this was obviously out of the blue and we still don't know cause of death.

Not that it matters, he's gone and there will never be another like him. We were so lucky to grow up in an era where we had these legends. Think of all the guitar players he put on the map and all the bands he gave a hand up to. Very sad, and a totally shit week. Just heard Hulk Hogan has died also, just to top it off.

Man a sad day in Rock & Roll history another Rocker has gone home. And what a fitting send off sure feel for his family.
That was quite something to see thousands of people come out for the funeral procession. Sharon looks broken, that was quite heart breaking to watch that. I believe the actual funeral is today. Can't quite find any positive things to say about this right now.
