Riddle me this....

Pedal boards have been standardized as running "right to left" since the early 1970s. Why do multi fx processors always have a signal chain running "left to right"?

Just something to ponder!
 
Right... That's why in japan they run it from down-up and right to left...
 
I'll hazard a guess that the physical pedals were designed for the instrument cable to enter from the right side because 99% of guitars are right-handed (would be awkward to have it cross over). That then leads to the pedals running from right to left as you add additional effects.

To back that up, consider which side almost any multieffect has the input (the right side) even though the chain is typically depicted as left to right.
