Review - MFC KickTag labels by Pedalboardlabels.com - gigged!

Got my Molten Kicktags today!

Hey Arrnie, thanks for the review mate - glad you like them.

Your board looks awesome!

Speak to you soon (sorry i didn't reply to your mail - im on a train to newcastle and although i can get on the web, my email is not playing the game :) )
Cheers,
Sukh

No probs Sukh. Your quick response on this forum is just as impressive as how quick you answered all my emails regarding ordering the Kicktags!
Just let me know when the Control sets are ready...! I can't wait to treat my MFC to more! These things are great!

Thanks bud. Control set is done and looking cool. - need to test them for a week or so to make sure they hold together (you'll see what i mean when u see them) and then ill release them and send you an update.

Thanks again for the feedback - really glad you like your KickTags ( and the Molten set is my personal favourite at the moment too!)

Just got them in the mail. Very happy with them, both the Fractal and planet theme and ofcourse the glowing text labels. Can't wait to see what you come up with next Sukh!;)
I call first dibs as an endorser. Haha.

Camera battery crapped out, so had to make due with the phone camera unfortunately.
Better ones will follow shortly.

Great stuff. Nice and tidy. Very happy with the "Subtle" theme. Easy-to-read font.
Ah, even got extras in the mail.

Bottom row is for 5 presets. Since these are always different per bank/song, it's no use naming the presets so the labels indicate the "Reveal IAs".

And now come over to the Glow-in-the-Dark Side!

Ain't it cool. ;-)

See below. This is with a bit of paper tape on top of the LEDS. Otherwise they are too bright (at least the red ones are).

So I don't totally understand how these work. Both pieces are magnetic, or just the text part in the middle?

I've been using a different label system and they don't stay on the MFC very well. They're prone to getting jostled and they come off partially, which ends up creating problems. That's not the case with these?

In some ways, I'd like to see a system where the "surround" is some sort of sticker or something that will stay almost no matter what, and then the text bit is just the think that gets changed. That way I could be confident they wouldn't move around, but I would still have the flexibility of changing where my IAs are.

Impressed, they look really well!! And i definitely prefer the subtle theme..it highlights the beauty of the MCF rather than take away from it, which some of the other designs seem to do.

Two pieces. The text label fits in the middle.

Hey buddy - i cant tell you how happy it makes me to see your board - that looks insane!

Thanks for posting the pictures and stay in touch!

The labels show up nicely.... I still don't like the tape idea, but I don't like the idea of not being able to see the LED's in a really bright situation much more.

Hello mate!

The magnets have to be low strength or they would interfere with the electronics in the board. This is why we have to use a 'surround' to hold things in place. But I'm with you - the less distracting stuff on the board the better, which is why we made the surround design as low profile as physically possible. The trick is for it to be able to catch onto something (in this case the
LED ring) to stop it from spinning.

We're experimenting with some different adhesive ideas and are about to start working with an adhesives specialist to see if something would work to hold a surround in place but still allow it to be repositionable. Although we have found something that does the job (and is pretty much infinitely repositionable) it isn't quite right and ends up trashing the surround over time!

The other issue with having a surround 'stuck' down is that it will be a pain in the bum to lift it to change the text label. There's always a compromise im afraid - and we've done the best we can to make it as good a mix as possible for 'form & function' with these so the surround is as non intrusive as possible but still work with our two-part design.

One thing u can do is put a tiny piece of blu-tack or something similar under a piece of the surround (use the thicker area at the top) to keep it from moving. That won't damage the surround and will hold it in place enough to stop moving but still allow you to lift it to chang the txt labels.

Cheers,
Sukh

so my pedalboard isnt always flat, it has a carrying case that tilts it on its side, would i have to worry about them falling off and having to reattach them when i open my case?

WARNING: Contents may shift during transport...lol

Have you seen this happen?

Hey there, i wouldn't dare try it with my board(!) but researched it and was also advised by magnet suppliers that putting neodymium magnets near electronics is generally a bad idea, plus there are minimum recommended distances you should place them from each other, health warnings over their effects on pacemakers etc. The bigger ones are strong enough to attract a piece of metal with enough force that it can crush a bone (do a search on YouTube - lots of fascinating and weird videos on there with people showing the effects of these magnets on electronics and chicken bones amongst other things). Also came down to their form factor - for what we had in mind, we couldn't find something that worked purely due to their size nd thickness.

Stronger magnetic sheets were available, but just wouldn't have worked for any number of reasons (from cutting to printing etc). We tried a bunch - it was a pain, I can tell you.

Incidentally, the reason we were looking into the neodymium magnets was nothing to do with the KickTags as they currently stand - it was for a future idea we are (still) working on...

Thanks,
Sukh
