Request: Tape Delay Emulation

Dave Hoskins

Hi Everyone,

I would like to set up a nice tape delay emulation patch to simulate multihead units like the WEM, Klemt, Roland, Echoplex, etx. Do you have any suggestions? Please post the pertinent delay type and settings in the reply since I can't access the Axexchange (last time I tried)

Wiki is your friend:

Scroll down toward the bottom.
The only problem I have with this, Sean, is that 100% feedback is only like 80-90%. I can't get runaway feedback.

I"m not seeing it Sean. And besides the workaround I think this is a miss with the delay design.

See the examples "inserting effects in to delay", same thing only w/o an effect (although you can put a filter in to make roll off faster).
You would use the second picture but leave out the rotary and branch into the delay instead. The return level is what will control the amount of delays.
This is similar to how a real tape delay works. Be careful w/ the return levels, you can get runway delay plus more to the point of clipping.

Yes, other devices have simpler ways of doing this. The eclipse w/ the timefactor algorithms goes to 110% on the feedback and has a hold function. Both I wish were on the axe-fx.
Cliff is well aware of the design of the delay and its limitations regarding runaway delay. It has been brought up before. This is how you can do it now.

NOTE this is NOT a zip file.
Download and remove the ".zip" from it (re-name)

External2 pedal controls the "run away" feedback.

It's NOT mine.
Kuddos to who ever created this cool patch.

THAT

IS

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

Isn't it?

Everytime I hear that I get blown away. The only problem is I really have no application for that sound right now. I'm tempted to write something just to use it. I especially love the way the repeats are filtered and distorted. I need to look at that patch again just to see how he did that.

Can someone reupload this patch? I just can't download it correctly, it always cancels the download by itself...

Here's a version of Super Dub Delay that works with the Standard. My unit was running 8.09 when this was tweaked.

Is this much different from running it on the Ultra?
I don't own an Ultra so I can't really say. :)

The original patch overloads the Standard. I got rid of the Enhancer. Maybe an EQ block. I can't really remember now. It's still two amps with the crossovers. Stereo. It's railing the CPU meter.

This is what it sounds like on the Standard: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/870088/sounds/dubdelay.mp3
