I was reading the manual earlier (I do not currently own an Axe-Fx II) and there is something I don't understand, do I absolutely need studio monitors or speakers to be able to use the axe as a "home amp"? Can I simply plug the axe via usb, plug headphones and play?

You can use headphones to monitor either directly on the Axe (via the front panel headphones jack) or use USB to transfer the signal to your computer and monitor via the headphone jack there (assuming it has one, etc.)

No external speakers other than your phones are required.

headphones wont feel good!!!

Axe is great but it feels and sounds nothing like an amp with headphones.
Its not about axe, even in a recording studio miced up amp doesnt sound like the real thing on headphones.
Read some on wiki about headphones and axe...

I would say to get a feeling for axe and to hear how great it is, you need external speakers
