Poweramp Sim only on Output 1, but not on Output 2?

Hi there everybody,

i have a question regarding the following live / stage setup:

For the time being (until the Fratomic FRFR amps come out!), i want to use my ultra with a tube poweramp and my trusty 4x12" on stage - (fed through Output 2 by using the fx-loop before the cab sim) -, and send the completely processed sound to FOH through Output 1 (including the cab sim).

Now if i have the poweramp sim on for a perfect FOH sound, this means that my tube poweramp on stage will also get fed by a signal WITH poweramp sim, as the fx-loop is behind the amp sim in the layout, right?
I guess this might be prone to sounding mushy, don't you think?

Can i somehow send a signal without poweramp sim to Output 2 (stage), and a signal with poweramp sim to Output 1 (FOH)?

I am asking this as i think, that many amps in the axe-fx only sound (really very) great, when you crank the master and have the poweramp sim actively shaping the sound.. :)

So when i disable poweramp sim globally, my FOH sound will miss a good bit of the overall axe-fx GREATNESS! ;)

I'll be thankful for any advice, on how you guys use similar setups..
(Or is the use of FRFR setups more or less mandatory with the axe-fx?)

Thanks!

Why do you particularly want the sim off through your onstage setup? I run my sims on all the time even though I'm amplifying through the power stage of my all-tube head. I don't consider my tone over-coloured just because its passing through a virtual power stage as well. As you have stated, many of the models require the power sims to deliver their full tonal potential. Use a tube power amp onstage if you wish but just be sure it has enough headroom that your tone won't end up too compressed or coloured by it. Have you considered a solid-state power amp?

Hey, thanks for your reply!

Well, i don't necessarily want the power-sim to be off, i still need to test it really, it was only guessed by thought so far..

Ok, solid-state could be an option, you are right.. This would'nt impart almost any sound coloration to the signal coming from the axe-fx..
Are there any recommended power amps to use?
(signal chain would be axe-fx -> poweramp -> 4x12" stereo cabinet (2 x 8 Ohms))
PA-Poweramps?
Studio-Poweramps?
How much (solid-state) watts would be sufficient?

Best regards,

There are a ton of opinions in in the amp/cab forum.
