I voted for the new stuff.. then started thinking about it... I don't really mess with user IRs, and I would likely not mess with these New IRs either. Then, I don't upgrade firmware that often, as I don't want anything changing with how I have stuff set-up and sounding - mainly because I don't Need anything changed.
I bought this spendy piece of kit for what it was at the time, and we have grown accustomed to each other, the Axe & I, and I really don't require it to change.
Something to consider along Those lines is that a lot of people bought this machine for the capabilities at the time, and, over the years, they have invested heavily in these Old School IRs for their live work and studio sounds.. and their sound revolves around having access to their Old School IRs. To say they cannot have what they initially purchased in the Mk1 if they upgrade to a newer firmware is a little grim if there cannot be a split in the user banks, or a separate firmware to please everybody - and there really shouldn't be an expectation that any company write separate firmware to please everybody, or cater to older gen products to debilitating degrees.
I think half of it is that we have been spoiled here. Fractal - as a professional business - is a little weird in that they actually give us a lot of things for free - the cynic in me (the miserable bastard that he is), whispers to me that a higher level of professional requires a fully road tested firmware (and we're the guinea pigs). But it's worth it to many, and we have been getting a lot of stuff for free here that we're not entitled to.
But we're not entitled to all these new things that come along.
We got what we paid for, and if we can't have "that something new" every five minutes as these guys churn it out, we might just be thankful for what we already have. These things were great before The Man said, "Hey, listen to this" - The AXE III Recordings thread is a testament to that. The world won't end for us if any newer thing cannot be shared. I think we could all agree we got what we paid for - and then some.
Happy Monday, Everybody! :0)
