Had no problem with the instal of 3.0. Trying to use SysEx utility To put in Bank A.
Axe Fx just say awaiting file under the firmware tab. Nothing happans. Could some one give me a hand
please. A step by step would be great.

Thank You

Open the bank in your sysex utility and send it to the Axe. You don't need to put it in any "mode" on the Axe - like you do for a firmware update. The Axe will know what to do when it sees the bank.

So I just need to turn on Axefx on, load the bank A into Sysex and hit the play button? Will the unit reboot? How will I know if I did it correctly? Do you have a preset I can check?
Thanks so much

AxeEdit. Got to Axe Manage. Browse to location you saved bank file. Right click and "Send to AxeFX > This Bank ". Done!

Having a problem with AxeEdit seeing my Axefx on my Mac. That's why I'm using SysEx utility. Would be helpful to know at least a couple of the new presets names when I do get it to work.
Thank you

Axe Edit will make it easier than the librarian. Are you sure you're running the latest Mac driver off the fractal download page? Sometimes you can try a different USB port and get better results. I'd avoid using the one on the side of the keyboard for instance.

This is probably obvious but have you checked in Axe Edit under 'Settings>Audio/Midi Setttings' to make sure MIDI input and Midi output are set to Axe-FX II?

Once you get things connected with Axe Edit and your Axe II, like Cobbler said you can simply do the following. (posted in another thread)

1. Download Axe-Fx II Preset Banks A, B & C to your desktop.

2. Open Axe-Edit.

3. Select SOURCE: -> Bank File

4. Browse to the v2 bank file on your desktop

5. Select Bank File To Open… A, B or C and Open

6. Click SAVE AS -> Send Bank to Hardware… Select Bank For Bank File…

7. Select A, B or C and SAVE

Thank you very much for your kind help. I will look tomorrow to check the axe Edit. Don't I only have to import bank A? For now I would just like to use the SysEx utility. All I did was load the new Bank A and pressed the play button. I just did it from the first screen
on the Axe Fx screen. I saw it sending info to the unit and the units midi light on the front panel was flashing. when it was done I turned the unit off the on again. I have no idea if it worked or not? If I knew the name of a new patch, that would confirm it for me. I did not see any new Amp names, and I went through all the presets. Still need your help. Sorry just a dumb Guitar player with a college degree. Feel like an idiot. The update was easy, this part very confusing.

Hey Mets,
There are some folks on here that will chime in (hopefully) that know a heck of a lot more about this thing than me.

I like using Axe Edit instead of a midi utility because Axe Edit lets me see what I'm loading and where it's going. Here are a couple things you can do. There are a dozen ways to skin this cat so use the one that's best for you.

Note: I think I read somewhere that if you have a foot controller connected to the Axe II, you should disconnect it prior to loading up a Bank file.

Checking Out the Presets in v3.0 Bank A

1. You can open the v3.0 bank file in Axe Edit to take a look at all the presets, names, numbers, effects blocks, etc. It'll all be there just like you were looking at them loaded on your Axe II but they'll simply be living in a folder on your computer.

To do this, put the v3 Bank A file in a place on your Mac where you can remember it. I put mine under Fractal>Axe FX II>Presets. Doesn't matter, it's wherever you elect to save it

Next, open Axe Edit and under the 'Source' drop-down menu on the main screen, choose 'Bank File'. Then navigate to where you saved the Bank A file and choose open.

Keep in mind, you don't have to be connected to your Axe II to do this. Axe Edit will simply open the bank file on your computer.

You might want to take a screen shot of the bank file after opening it up. That way you can have a printed copy to work with and take notes.

Midi Utility

I've only used a midi utility a couple times. Since the Axe II offers the USB connection, it's just way easier.

Nevertheless, if you want to use a midi utility, I'd suggest you give the Snoize Librarian a try. s n o i z e : SysEx Librarian
It works really well with the Mac. Not much to it really. You just browse to the file and click play.

Here's an excerpt from the manual on how to import a complete Bank File to the Axe II.

To restore a SysEx backup file with a 3rd party MIDI utility or sequencer:
Create the connection between the Axe-Fx II and computer. This might be via legacy MIDI interface or USB.
Transmit the desired SysEx file from the application to the Axe-Fx II. It is not necessary to ready the Axe-Fxin any way.

  • When the Axe-Fx receives a BANK or SYSTEM dump, it processes and stores the data immediately, overwriting local presets and settings without warning.
Hope that helps. Keep the faith and don't give up. It'll be worth it.

Also, keep your eyes peeled for a new Axe Edit any time now. Word is that it works really well.

Thank you so very much for taking the time to post such a good response. I will re visit everything in the AM. I always find that the people on this board for the most part are very kind and helpful. Big Joe Daddy you are one of them:) It's just so strange that the actual update was so easy for me yet these new presets have been so difficult. I will let you know how I do! I still may need to ask a question or two so I hope you don't mind? Thank you again for your awesome post.

Could not wait! Big Daddy I did everything as you suggested. All my music stuff is on a different Mac. So I just opened the file in Axe Edit. It really is kinda cool! I see what you are saying, as you can really see everything. It looks like I did do it corectly. I have two questions. First question when I clicked on the Amp block I wanted to see what type of Amp it was. It gave me a pull down menu with all effects ect. However it did not say what type of Amp it was? I did this two see if any of the new amps where there. It just gave me a choice of Amp 1 or Amp 2, with no names. This leads me to my next question. How do you chose a different Amp by name? And also where are the new amps used and where do you find them? Thanks again!

You have to use the Axe interface to see the new amps and parameters, the current version of the editor does not have any of the changes made in 3.0. That will be released soon, until then use the Axe interface for editing.

Mets, the new amps/settings are not yet in Axe Edit as Moab said.

To change amp type in Axe Edit, left click the amp block and bottom left there'll be a drop down list of amps.

Here's a screenshot showing where I mean.

No doubt you've found it yourself already but just incase!

For some reason on a PC, the Axe FX II doesn't seem to save the presets. I noticed the above was written for a mac. Would someone mind posting the steps needed to write (and store!) and entire bank file in the Axe Fx II using Axe Edit. This is what I need to do after version 4.01 of the firmware has been programmed.

Are you trying to create a new bank on your PC and move presets from the Axe to it, or backup a Bank from the Axe to the PC? It's not real clear from your post.
