Please help me!!!

So I had an axe and kemper years ago. Hated foh sound no matter what I did.got rid of them. So I got the fm9. None of these amps sound remotely like the real amps I’ve owned and it is extensive, I settled on the Friedman amp. Made a patch and some scenes that sounded merely ok. Took it to an empty legion and setup my Jbl srx system with crown 5000 watt amps and Qsc 16 TouchMix mixer. Left cab and amp sims on, ran eq flat on Qsc channel. A bunch of musicians came. It sounds horrible. Like it’s in the distance. Like the mids are plastic. Changing the amp block eq barely does anything . Changed cabs and no one could tell the difference between 112 thru 412s . messed with geq and parametric before and after patches. Clean sounds were out front ok and decent but really bright. We all were there for two hours till we just gave up. I’ve been playing in a good money 40 weekend a year cover act and would really like to unlock it, what am I doing wrong, it’s just an expensive mess. It sounds ok on my studio monitors but not great. I figured if I turn it up to average playing volume thru pa I could dial it in. I’ve watched tons of tutorials and videos. What the living hell am I doing wrong here!!?? Somebody please give me some ideas. The whole group of people who came were interested in maybe getting one and all of them were like never do it after that. I told them I must be an idiot cause Def Leppard supposedly uses them now. I’m tired of listening to you tube videos were it sounds unbelievable.

Sounds like something is not set up correctly. I would suggest looking at some of Leon Todd (2112) videos on youtube. They are very informative and will likely help to resolve your issue.

switch out that room cab for something else i would - try legacy 103

are you confident that the jbl's are reasonably flat. if you play music through them, does it sound ok?

how are you connecting the axe to the mixer? two xlr's? and are the channels panned hard left and right?

and yes, post the preset

i copied your settings using the hbe v2. i swapped out the cab for the one above and increased the gain of the amp to 7 and it's a decent rock tone. so it's not the preset. the problem must lie with the mixer or the speakers, or how it's connected up

i would say that your input 1 level (in A/D input levels) looks a little low. try 50% or even 60%.

I would say first is to try a traditional guitar cab and a clean power head. Go from there and see if you can your sound. I used QSC K12's as my main "amp" sound on stage for a long time and they could sound great, but if they were too quiet then they would get lost. The FOH set up with a powered monitor works well, BUT make sure you are creating your presets with the set up you are using. Sometimes the studio set up doesn't translate 1-1 for a live sound. However, if you are only going FOH with in ears, I do not see it would sound "horrible". That issue would rely on the sound man not the AXE FX.

Jbl srx are pretty good foh speakers.I tried Qsc kw112 as a monitor and it was again brittle and distant sounding. How do I post the preset as I’m new to this. I ran it thru the loop of pwe event horizon 50 through a 112 with a v30 and a 212 with et 65s It sounded present and in your face like an amp that was bright. Nothing like my real be 50 deluxe/bogner atma/ pwe event horizon. Like amp that the mids really quickly fatigue the ears. For that I took cabs and power amp off. It was acceptable with eq and geq work but not close to the real things. I heard a guy once playing in a journey tribute. He ran into the loop of a mk 4 112 combi with black shadow and miced it. It sounded great. He used a axe ll with the 5153 red he said. Are my I/0 and global settings correct for front of house? Thanks for responding guys. I feel stupid. I want to use this thing and save my ears.

Try cutting the frequencies on the output or in the cab block. 80 hz< >8500hz.
I often cut the lows to 120hz and sometime the highs to 6500hz, depending on the amp model.
I also add some proximity (1-2) on the Cabinet (Simulates the mic being closer to the speaker, I believe)

Based on your settings (pics) I would boost the Master Volume in the Amp Block to about 7/7.5 and reduce the Level to -12db
At least that is the settings I have on my BE. I also use some IR's by ML Labs, there are several in the Cab Banks. Both F2.1007 and F2.1014 sound great with the BE (personal preference, of course)

How are you used to listen to your real amps? Thru their cabs or mic'd up?
In the first case just get a power amp and play the fm9 thru a guitar cab (with cab sim/IRs disabled), you'll never get that kind of sound thru IRs and full-range speakers.

If you got rid of the Axe-Fx and the Kemper you are not going to be happy with the FM9.

It sounds like you are too used to what a real amp and cab sound like while standing next to it. I assure you, that same amp does not sound like that once you mic it up.

You really have two options in my opinion. Buy a power amp and run your FM9 through your cab. Whatever it is, 2x12 or 4x12. That will get you closer to what you are missing.

Or

Understand it replicates the sound of a professional mic'd amp. Most national acts have their amps mic'd behind the stage and never really hear them like you would in your Jam Room. Then realize, it will sound killer in a mix at gig volumes and have fun. Also, high and low cut will help if you are playing at gig volume.
