Ok...so I know there are too many of these...

I'm sorry to bring this subject up, I'm sure you're tired of it...but:

I live in a place where it's hard to try out all kinds of different power amps, and I basically have to order something in order to get to try it out.
So before doing that, I want to ask you this:

I have a Marshall 9100, AFX ULTRA and Engl Pro V30 cab. I play metal and heavy rock, so I need the higain tones to be broootal. Im not happy with the sound from my marshall, so I want to get something a bit better.

I was thinking about getting a Mesa 2x50x2 or a Fryette/VHT 2x50. But then I started thinking about all you guys using solid state amps. It'd be nice with a amp that is lighter and that'll cost less to replace when the airlines molest it. But the main concern is SOUND.

Which, if money is not an issue, would be a better choice: Mesa/VHT or a nice SS? I was thinking about the QSC GX5, would that be a good choice? Remember, the only issue is the SOUND. It needs balls.
Also, when using SS, are you using guitar cabs? Because Im very happy with my ENGL cab.

I use the QSC GX5 connected to two cabs, and it's got some serious power... You also have to understand that "true balls" come in pairs... Two cabs = Two balls = True balls

If not, you're just a One Hung Low kind of guy

But seriously, I'm never happy with my sound unless it's at ear level... So that's why I have a full stack... If God would have put my ears by my kneecaps, I'd be fine with a half stack... Or maybe if I was a midget pornstar...

I feel like I've said this before... :D

Hehe, thanks for very fast reply. About balls: it just feels like, when I play alone, it sounds fine. When the rest of the band kicks in, I have no bottom end...I could probably tweak in more bass, but I didnt have to before...dunno whats going on now with this new marshall amp.

That said, Im quite happy with the volume Im getting. Is the QSC GX5 overkill for my one cab? How high do you have your volume know when playing live/rehearsal?

I play the Axe with an ART-SLA2 (bridged mode) and a 4x12 cab.
Also had an ENGL 840/50 which really is a great power amp but with the ART to me it sounds more defined.
Sold my ENGL on ebay and never regretted it. I'm really happy with the ART and it would be no problem to blow the guys in the rehearsal room to hell.
Normally I have the output on the AXE at around 1 o'clock. That's loud enough and has balls :)

This right there tells me that you will have to work out your EQ properly and match it with your bass player. If you listen carefully to many metal recordings most guitar sounds do not have much in the lower end. It all comes from bass guitar/kick drum combo. If you dial in too much of the 45-125 Hz low end it will sound big and "heavy" by itself but when you have bass guitar/kick drum kicking in - you are fighting for the same sonic space and guess what - bass guitar and kick drum gonna win but the end result will be very muddy, this is probably what your experience is.

Just sharing my experience.

Hi man. Thanks for your reply, but I'm not a stranger to these things youre mentioning. I'm not saying I want to sound like KoRn, I just want some low mids balls to my sound. We dont have issues with mud, just to point that out. The reason it sounds better alone, is probably that I'm underestimating the volume levels or something, I dunno..

My main point with mentioning the bottom issue, is that the amp you recommend should be able to tackle these things. As I said, I know less about SS, therefore I'm just mentioning a couple of wishes =)
