I'm sorry to bring this subject up, I'm sure you're tired of it...but:
I live in a place where it's hard to try out all kinds of different power amps, and I basically have to order something in order to get to try it out.
So before doing that, I want to ask you this:
I have a Marshall 9100, AFX ULTRA and Engl Pro V30 cab. I play metal and heavy rock, so I need the higain tones to be broootal. Im not happy with the sound from my marshall, so I want to get something a bit better.
I was thinking about getting a Mesa 2x50x2 or a Fryette/VHT 2x50. But then I started thinking about all you guys using solid state amps. It'd be nice with a amp that is lighter and that'll cost less to replace when the airlines molest it. But the main concern is SOUND.
Which, if money is not an issue, would be a better choice: Mesa/VHT or a nice SS? I was thinking about the QSC GX5, would that be a good choice? Remember, the only issue is the SOUND. It needs balls.
Also, when using SS, are you using guitar cabs? Because Im very happy with my ENGL cab.
