I should specify that I not only had to go down to 9s but D'Addario balanced tension 9s (the XLs), which are even lighter.
Interesting, didn't know they shipped with 11s. This one was used, so wildcard, but it does feel a little stiffer than I'm used to, for some reason. Would have thought I'd recognize actual 11s after playing 10s for years, but the guitar is brand new to me, so maybe not.Collings are great guitars. I had an I-35 Deluxe but I just can't get used to the large 335 style body. I would love to get a CL some day. Collings does ship their guitars with 11's so that might be what's on there now.

I've considered Stringjoy, because I definitely notice that string tension isn't even in standard 10-46 sets. But I'm too miserly to want to pay what they cost ongoing. Ideally I'd give them a try and see if I thought they were worth it, but see aboveStarted going up from 9s to 10s to 11s in the early '90s, then decided it wasn't achieving the tonal results I wanted, and found Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinkies, #2222. Played them from the early '90s to a couple years ago, with the exception of a short period when I played Gibson Les Paul 9-46. Now I play Stringjoy 9-46. They run different gauges in the middle strings, and it really sorts the string balance and tension nicely. They run 9-12-15-26-34-46 vs. the 9-11-16-26-36-46 most run....
Semi OT: Which of these straps for this guy?

That first one is a tiny maker, in Spain, so expensive and longer to get, and I trust less that it's nitro safe.
I've been through the whole Couch catalog, usually my first call, but didn't see anything great for this particular guitar's coloring.
Any other suggestions, vegan and nitro safe?

Not vegetarian though.
Eh. I thought Veg-Tan was fake leather. ¯\(ツ)/¯Not vegetarian though.
Well, that alligator strap came, and it doesn't look much like the online pics. It's way more brown, not great with the guitar at all. It's also got a kind of vinyl-ish kinda cheap vibe. Bleh.Ordered the alligator RightOn one from GimmeSomeStrings, in stock and free shipping.
That's the one me and my wife both liked best too
Those pics look like it was done with at least half decent professional lighting and a good camera. True color representation is a tough thing and has a bit of subjectiveness involved especially with todays photo manipulation software. Orange, yellows and reds can vary a good bit on screen. Of course making the guitar pop is the end goal. Some higher saturation was probably done to accentuate the grain/flame. What’s important is you like what you see. I bet it’s super sweet.Well, that alligator strap came, and it doesn't look much like the online pics. It's way more brown, not great with the guitar at all. But actually, the pics of the guitar itself don't look like it does in the flesh either, they're way brighter and redder than real life. The actual guitar is beautiful in my book, classy, more subtle than the pics, not as hyped.
So either my phone isn't color accurate (who knew?!?), or the pics everyone takes for marketing purposes aren't, or more likely, both.
Ordered two cheaper ones this time, a plain brownish Ortega and the Levy's cork one. Hope one of them works out at least. Nothing like any of these is in stock locally to see in person.
Wouldn't have thought this would be a project at all.
Looking at the actual guitar, it changes a lot with the light too. In bright light, the grain is strong, almost 3D, irridescent. No lighting I have makes it look as red as the shop's pics. Those pics look like it was done with at least half decent professional lighting and a good camera.
