Newbie PSA: turn it up

I love playing both loud and quiet. Loud for me is my wife telling me she could hear me outside while parking the car. Quiet is lower than a normal conversation. I play through a 4x12 cab at home and it sounds great in both volume situations. I never practice with loud volume though, can't let the neighbors know I suck.

If years of beta testing have taught me anything, it's that there are aspects to tone that you simply cannot hear at bedroom volume.

@dr bonkers nailed it. 85 dB is just about right. Loud enough to hear what's happening, but not so loud that you're going to fry your ears or your brain after an hour.

That doesn't mean I never play (or test) at quieter volumes. Sometimes conversational level is all I can get away with — and for personal enjoyment and some kinds of testing, it's all I need. But for pure pleasure and critical listening, turn it up a bit. :)
