New version of FM9?

I was thinking of buying another fm9 for a backup. I heard some clamoring there is a new version coming out. Can anybody validate this?

I've been super curious about this too. Cliff has made comments regarding some features they are looking at for next gen products. However, there was - and likely never will be - any mention of a time frame.

But if Cliff is already mentioning some ideas for "next gen" - I wouldn't be surprised if AFX4 isn't announced in the next year or two.

I've also been wondering if there are any more products that could sit alongside the compact VP4 and AM4 units. Maybe more dedicated effects, like a reverb and delay unit? loop station? "capture" based device?

For all we know, they could release "FM9 Turbo Pro Max III" tomorrow, but I doubt it. My guess is that AFX4 is the next "big baddy", with next gen FM??? a few years after that. Heck, for all we know - the compact/modular AM4/VP4 platform could be the successors to the FM9 and we jsut don't know it yet.

But keep in mind, Helix Stadium seems to be floundering. It's basically just a Helix, with a few more 'special' models. And there are tons of negative videos discussing the fact that Stadium didn't really add much CPU power to the unit above Helix, is riddled with un-fixed bugs, still hasn't added their proxy/capture function, and so on. Rhett Schull had to back track on his previous videos, where was excited about touring with the Stadium, only to have to leave it behind in favor of his old QC. So if Fractal was feeling pressure to release something, I'm guessing that pressure has eased up a bit.

Fractal has already said that the Axe IV isn't imminent. That means that a new FM unit isn't either.

Geez, how forums do I need to follow for my Fractal news and gossip? (FYI - most of us already figured it would be a while before we see AFX4, ad even longer for FM). But no one should be shocked that gear speculation starts happening harder and faster when NAMM rolls around (even though Fractal has never really aligned with NAMM schedules).

Actually Cliff aluded to it here in these forums back in Oct when talking about Nam capability in future gen, but nothing concrete. It's gonna be awhile.

What I would love to see now is a refining of the UI on the FMs to incorporate some of the AM4 UI and workflow. Mainly putting more of the detailed controls under "Expert Edit" and making the main controls easier to get to when playing live, and not just via performance pages. I have both an FM9 and AM4 and much prefer the AM4 for usability. It's a delicate balance with the more advanced features of the FMs

Yeah those October comments were the ones i s slides to in my first. I was more interested in the comment from that other forum, where he says he wasn’t talking about afx4.

Was that comment made right before the AM4 announcement? It says “yesterday”, but i assumed that could be an old screen grab (?).

I do like the idea of a Fractal-made FRFR, but like many here - I've started using in-ears. There will always be need for FRFR, but it just doesn't feel like a "growth industry" right now.

Honestly, an in-ear transmitter with better acoustic processing for EQ/dynamics/ambience would be a welcome FAS edition IMHO. Better yet, if they can model the way these golden eared products hear sound, and apply it to our earballs - that would be pretty dang cool.

Just here and the best gear forum in da world, TheGearForum.com (not that I’m biased or anything).

None. It's all been discussed here. The forum has a search feature.

I have no idea what you are talking about, but sure...this is the only forum i'm on for gear and all the information somehow magically worked its way in to my brain, but yea, it wasn't posted here...

My screen shot above is from TGF. I did post that in the Lounge here also, so maybe that's where you saw it? As far as I know, that info wasn't posted here directly.

I didn't realize alot of you fine folks are also on TGF. I am on The Gear Page, but I guess that is not as cool? I also saw a post last week on the TGF that Fractal was saying they were going to announce something at NAMM. I have friend that is new to modeling (Tube snob) that wants to check out Fractal but I had to tell him they don't exhibit there. Do they have a suite or something where I can direct him to turn him over to the dark side?

Both places aren't very cool at times.

There will be a "surprise". Fractal confirmed that this surprise is a new product but would not be the next generation of Axe-Fx. As far as I know, Fractal doesn't have a booth at NAMM. I think it's just going to be announced during this timeframe.

Also, isn't NAMM almost halfway through now? Where's the surprise?

Yeah this is the second day - I live right by where its being held but not going to it. My friend is going and wanted to check out Fractal somewhere. Hopefully there will be some AM4s on the floor at other Vendor booths for him to check out.
